They are not caps. They will not just fall off, They are wire nuts they screw on, the only way to have them come off is if you unscrew them, Their are no exposed wires under the tape, You could use block connectors if you like either way will work just fine. No one is talking crap in this thread but you. Wire nuts are $1.50 for 100.
So like I said before we can just agree to disagree, I am just trying to help people out, I will be showing how to wire a lamp socket set next. Have a good day, and Peace!
The problem with this design is that normal use and gravity may untwist the wires .

You could use wire nuts to fix an extension cord - in the same fashion - but it wouldn't be safe.

Here is what safe looks like:

1. Strip the wires, and slip a short length of wire )shrink) wrap over either end you plan to connect. The kind you heat with a match, and it shrinks to seal the connection, like this.

2. Twist the wires together end to end (not off to the side). like this

solder the connection

Finish it off by heating the shrink wrap tight.

It's a safe connection, but I don't recommend hanging heavy light bulbs from an electrical wire, Use a second wire that takes the strain (weight).
