I’ve seen these pots a few times now. I like this idea. Do the current plants benefit from the top cover or is is more for future plant generations to benefit from? Also do you see a dramatic difference in top cover? I’ve heard people over water to keep top cover healthy. Is that why u wait until canopy was full and shading top cover plants so they don’t dry out? Your grow is awesome btw.

I’ve read that food grade diatomaceous earth works well. I’ve heard mixing into soil can also be useful. I’ve used massive amounts on my basil and had excellent results.

DE does work well. However, in organics, its the carpet bomb approach. See DE will kill most all of the critters in your soil. Im not looking for that. Im looking to get rid of once spacific bug. So this is a more targeted approach. For pill bugs the beer trick works, or Sluggo Plus. Never tried the basil do they run from it or eat it and die?
Yes sir. mow that shit down. And from this day forward never let it get more than 2-3 inches tall. Mow it often. if your doing a living soil approach. If your doing a earthbox, then cover it with your plastic and let it all die and decompost into the soil. Earth boxes dont need living mulch like Beds do. But they do benifit from the organic matter (roots/leaves) that are now breaking down and feeding your soil biology making your plant grow faster. So if you got a clone ready to go, cover that and drop your clone.
Yea it's the earthbox. I wasnt sure is I overdid it with the cover crop. I dumped a lot of seeds in. Lol

Nope, although I did get to pocking my soil with my new moiusture meter (has a longer tip) and i was running into hard wood in there. So not all sponge material yet.
They did. And im ok with a couple rocks as they give me a portal into how the soil is doing. I lift a rock and see whats going on.
I was just wondering if it was a quick breakdown, or a long slow one. I'm thinking that the long breakdown would be better, as to keep nutrition in your soil for cycles to come!

No i just shut off the lights. Theres nothing growing, so they dont have anything to eat. The sluggo will be there food source and it will kill them off.

Shit man, some days I feel like a noob. Im not down really. Nothing ever happens in my garden so something like this requires me to "do" stuff. I am also not sure im happy with my watering system yet. I switched over from the C sprayers cause of the amount of mist that was blowing around the room jacking up my humidity. The drip lines arent jacking up my humidity but they are not wetting the entire top of the mulch either. The other bed is looking good. Im ready to get these plants in it. I think were going to have 9. the G13xBH finaly sprouted some shoots.
I'm using a sip right now, and honestly, it's so easy. Just add water to the res. Wicking and gravity do the rest. I'm never overwatered or underwatered. I thought about trying drip, but the learning curve, for me, would be too steep. Lol
