and i still have more questions. :)
a single bedroom is big enough for a 600w?
how many plants?
if i was to do what hulk said, how much taller would the room have to be andd how high should i have the light?
Light
the light should start out almost 2-3 feet away then lower it a little every day but if you have hieght problems then i would put it as far as possible then if the leaves dont burn lower it a little untell you see problems ...with the cooltube you can get it almost 12 inchs away

Roomsize
bigger is always better less heat in one place, a bigger room you might not even need a cool tube

and plants is all up to you man you can put tons of plants in there but not every one will be good nugs,..... there is a thread out there that tells you lights per plants

im out i gotta take a rip now bongsmilie

ok what I would do .. I would go down to your local hardware store(since you dont have much money I would recomend walmart--although if you can not go to walmart..better for everyone.. I hate that place!!!)

I would buy a 48 inch fluro ballast.. like ten bucks... and 2 plant and aquarium bulbs.. about 5 bucks each.. or some cfls.
Start your plants under those.. seedling and small clones do will with furos.. I would start today.. and in a few months once you have enough money together .. you will have a few plants between 10-24 inches .. then you can put them under your 600 and veg for a little or just flower um..

once you have more money together you can always get something better going...
Me personally I would rather have 5 plants going under CFLS.. than have nothing at all

peace n luv..

check out the faq section there is a bunch of great info in there as well

I couldn't agree more about walmart. That place is the devil.

If you're moving in three weeks, wait and start then. If you've got a whole room to grow in, search some threads about setting up a grow space and make it work for you.

Often times you aren't the first person to ask these questions, and a little time spent searching on these or other message boards (*while high, so it doesn't even feel like a long time) can go a long way.

You can also experiment with methods of introducing cold air into your space. Check out my journal in my signature--I made an AC from a styrofoam cooler that has helped immensely. Got the idea from another thread on RIU (and cited appropriately!).

Good luck and happy reading!

Good luck man...this being my first grow I can say it gets easier as you do it. Like anything it just takes some getting used to, and the more you practice the better you get. I'm sure you'll put that 600w to good use someday!

Dude heres a suggestion:) try putting a tray with ice in it and put that in front of a fan. and just point the fan upwards blowing cool air to the light. It's pretty simple, wont really cost you anything, and i think it would work pretty well in a closet.(I'm Still a big noob though). Also get something to exaust the hot air out , just leave the door open every now and then. tel me how it goes bro

Cheers :)

Or if you wer stuck for venting options due to funds and the like just get yourself a few computer fans and wire them up to mobile phone chargers, cut holes for the fans and position them so you have cool air being sucked in from the bottom of your space, and hot air being pushed out at lamp height. My grow space is only 5.5ft high by 2ft square and I have managed to run a 400w hps in there. . . . . .which is nice.

p.s this option is for your closet grow of course. If your are going to use a room to grow in a 600w should be fine

I have a good idea and some advice for you. Of course, I don't know how well it will work, but here goes..

1st.. use the entire chest of drawers. Get your hps up near the top where the top drawer would go. Normally, people use a movable (by chain) light, but in this model, you will move the plants by shelving.

2nd.. you will need a wood shelf and a glass shelf cut to the inside measurements of the cabinet. The glass will be difficult, as you will need it as flush as possible to the wood on the sides. This glass will need to be fastened just below the light to protect the rest of your grow setup.

3rd.. Use a hole saw to drill out big holes in the sides of the chest.. maybe 3-4 per side. Radio shack has big, high flow AC "Muffin Fans" made of metal (I use the smaller version of these for my veg. computer case, btw.) which you will need to attach as intake on one side and exhaust on the other. You will need to cover these somehow with something lightproof to maintain your stealth. You could possibly shield them w/ black rock wool or such (and carbon-filter on exhaust) between the fans and the light and then put a loose black foam or such on the outside. The only tricky thing about them is the noise. There will be a definite fan noise when lights are on, but this will probably move your air. The more fans wired in parallell safely, the better.

4th.. Use the other wood shelf I mentioned in the beginning like a bookshelf.. move it up and down with the plants, as needed.

5th.. Coat EVERYTHING inside with aluminum sheet bonded with something fire retardant. Foam, maybe? This will protect your cabinet from catching fire, thus saving your life. Then, use flat white paint for your reflective on top of the aluminum. I know it's not the BEST reflectivity, but it is decent and its heat disspation properties are what you're after here. You can make up what you lose in reflectivity with some ghetto co2 (sugar-water and yeast).

6th.. grow away, but continue to fear and I'd not leave the house with that thing on, to be honest. HPS / MH are hot as hell.

DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility for anything you are about to do. You simply asked for ideas and I am providing one. Now, for the advice..

Personally, I think the best idea presented on here was to keep the cabinet and your stealth, sell the HPS and get yourself 2 sets of SERIOUSLY kickass CFL's - 6500's for veg. and 2500's for flower. You can even use screw-in ac adapters like I do in my grow.. makes it UNREAL easy and cheap to set up. In the end, you will save an ASSLOAD of money (1 time AND monthly.. 600W for 12 hours per day is SERIOUS buck on electricity bills, man) and keep your own personal safety, as well as the safety of those around you. Seriously.. going stealth means you are free to do whatever and can take away some of that fear. You bought a light big enough to make a small grow ROOM - not a cabinet. Probably spent a bunch, too. Re-Ebay that bitch and get to work the way MANY people are doing it on here. Seriously.. there are guys on here growing CFL that put some of the MH / HPS guys to shame nowadays. Serious.. peep this:

https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/141891-my-stealth-closet-grow-must.html

This guy's getting ready to harvest soon and he did it by re-vegging in something a lot smaller than what you've got. Imagine what you could do by growing your seedlings, topping a couple times, lst'ing during veg and then a SCROG? You could get an assload of sweet, sweet cheeba out of that cab, man. WITH CFL's! There's an entire forum under Indoor Growing about them. It's really the way to go. On top of that, "the man" won't even register a cfl grow. With more and more cities adopting smart grid technologies, they will be able to see EXACTLY who is growing with MH / HPS. As soon as that 600 W spike hits every 12 hours, you'll be a sitting duck for the handcuffs. I know.. I helped implement smart grid technology for a while. CFL's, conversely, use such little power that you could grow PLENTY using 200W or less in an apartment and no electric company would need to be the wiser.

Dead serious, man.. ditch the HPS. I know it's completely uber and all that, but ask yourself a simple question: Would you rather have weed and do it safely or risk your life and gamble burning your crops with a "cool grower's light" anyways?

Peace and luck, man.

That was probably the most help ive had from RIU, thanks alot and +rep for sure.
Im gonna wait untill i move, to see if i can get a spare room for that hps, if not ill sell it. I got it cheap second hand in good condition. If theres no space when i move for that HPS im gonna take your advice and use CFLs. and also..
Somebody said that a cool tube would solve all of my problems.. Is this for real?

I wouldn't trust it in such a small space, but I'm a n00b, myself. I've grown shitty plants before, but nothing like I'm doing now. When you do your homework and listen to the advice of others, you will succeed. I started on here quite a while ago and read for nearly a year (changed accounts at the start of my grow) without more than 2 posts before I even began my project. I purchased / sourced my gear over some 3-4 months and did my strain homework for my TINY grow space (I'd kill for the space you have) for about 2-3 weeks. During the time I waited for the shipment on my seeds, I environment tested my entire setup to make sure I was in NO danger of burning my house down or even singing my plants. I made my whole design modular so that I could add or subtract as needed. I'm in week2 of my grow and everything is going smoothly.

My biggest suggestion is to stop trying to adapt your environment to your gear and start adapting your gear to your environment. It's cheaper, easier and FAR safer. Another option.. go buy yourself the CFL's you need and get growing in that cabinet. Hang on to the HPS for another day. CFL's for the space you got will be less than $100 for EVERYTHING, easily. Serious.. a couple of Y socket splitters and a hanging plugin socket and you are on your way to growin' in an afternoon. You could be planted and set up in an hour from now. Dead serious.
