starting from seed

ok so i start from seed with seeds friends give me. when they sprout up they just grow up and dont get more leaves. jsut the seed leaves. how do i make a plant short and bushy?

first time and patience if you won't provide the conditions to grow they gone stay that way and die probably.

give us a little look into your grow set up and we might prevent that to happen

what type of light are you using?

shit...lol i have 3 50 watt grolights from lowes and 2 65 watt same type. and1 fish tank florescent. i am going to buy 2 shop light fixtures with 2 sockets for florescent lights and put them in there. ( i alos have 3 250 watt mh bulbs but i cant afford a ballast that can plug into my wall outlet. i have a grow currently growing its about 4 months into growth. i started from seeds from some bud i bought and thought they were best seeds. i started flowering about 3 weeks ago but no signs of sex. i would post pics but dont have a camera that can hook up to comp.(yet) the light are about 8 inches from top of plants. i have 2 big ones one small one that imma kill, and one hydro plant that isnt doing to much but it aint dieing. im using a ghetto wick set up with a 2 litre bottle cut in half turned upside down(medium is pure perlite.) i am using 15-30-15 nutes and every 2-3 weeks i put a half cap of 5-1-1 fish emulsions.

also my grow room is in my closet 2x5x9. light set up on a 12-12 timer. i have a window air conditioner that keeps my whole room at 70-80 degrees (f) and one miniture rat cage fan from wally mart that moves air really good. imma post a diagram in a sec

thats my gro room. the lgihts are more spread out so all plants get light. i had to ghetto rig it since i dont have too much money.

i have 4 plants 2 ar about 2-3 feet tall(i topped them) and 1 is about 2 ft, the other is like maybe 1 foot. i started them all at the same time but i dont have very good lgihts which is the problem but im trying im kinda poor like i have no money to buy anything. so imma just leave these be and see what they yeild and start from there with better lights. my plants all are different seeds and all smell differently. one is orangy another is like lemon/lime, and the mid size smells like skunk. the smallest one imma prolly kill cause it has like 3 leaves. lol. imma try and clone the skunky one and start with good lights

are those "grow lights" some kind of CFL or rather incandescent bulbs? if they are incandescent ones that is the main cause of the trouble since they are junk.

oh well, post a pic of your grow and that odd plant of your... i have to see that myself...

they are GE plant light 3 are 50 watt 2 are 65 watt they are really shitty bulbs. but hey if anyone ahs an extra 250 mh ballast laying around i need it i have 3 250 watt mh bulbs but no ballasts.( i need one that can plug in to my wall outlet.

no not them. they look more like a halogen bulb just smaller.

Those aren't the right type of lights, those are just for "illuminating the beauty" of the plants, not for growing them. I'd take them back and get some CFLs, you can get a 3 pack of 27w ones for about 9 bucks and they plug into regular lamp sockets.

ya i just dont ahve any money. im about to redo my gro room as sson as i get some better seeds to grow. but i need like 150$ first.
