Soil

what's ya'all opinion on using fire pit ash to mix into soil for growing?
I wouldn't do that, if you do, do so sparingly, they can increase your ph pretty quick, and it's mostly soluble too, so that type of spike to the soil isn't good.
Why do you think you need it? For the nutrients? I'd go with minerals personally, an concentrate on a good bioherd to incorporate the phosphorus availability.
for liming agents i'd use oyster flour, crab shell, oyster shell, or simple dolomite lime/calcitic lime
but if your base is promix, that's already a limed mix.
don't want to much or you'll lock out other nutrients

I've used nothing but ocean forest fox farm, I tried using some from a local home improvement store and had very crappy results, even if it's $14 a bag or the soil, you can fill up 2 1/2 - 5 gallon buckets and also don't need veg nutrients well I never have used at least and veg for 2 months so it makes it cheaper buying this soil and having to fool around with nutrients, the only thing I buy is bloom nutrients when I am ready to flower and I still don't even use a lot of that.

I was just wondering if it was permissible to use for my first grow, what about the use of used coffee grounds for growing.I'm looking at the endless possible types of soil to use.

nothing wrong with coffee grinds as a nutrient, I would imagine it needs to be cycled to a degree, but if I remember correctly coffee grinds are fairly neutral in PH, and if I recall correctly (stoner memory) the nitrogen content was pretty good.
like 2-0-0 or a 3-0-0
so roughly the macro value of grassclippings, ironically enough, they are often used in conjunction with each other as the "green" input on compost piles.
i'd say you could safely add 2 cups per cubic foot, but much of that depends on your other nutrients

Coffee grounds pH is low. Makes sure it doesn't offset your pH. And if mixing soil I like to let my soil sit for a month or 2. Let's bacteria and fungi to find a balance and for the pH to stabilize from things like coffee grounds.

sunshine mix #4 is the shit. great organic base soil that you can amend with anything. I use kelp meal, alfalfa meal, bone meal, azomite, mykos, bat guano, 1/3 part soil compost, ancient forest humus. thats my water-only mix which i let cook for 30 days minimum.

What is the best soil to grow, can i use the soil that is outside my house?
Is it dirt or is it "soil"?.

What kind of soil do you have outside?... Sandy?. Clay? Sandy Loam?. Is there enough organic matter in it?..

Most likely a bag of soil will perform better than what you have outside. Promix, Blackgold, etc.. Unless you're going to grow outside.

It's high in nitrogen but easily over used because your not sure of exact composition. Blood meal is a better organic solution for nitrogen.
Wood ash contains virtually no nitrogen as it is lost as gas during the burn. There are trace amounts, but most N-P-K ratios list it at 0. In fact, 0-1-3 is the common ratio you'll find for ash.

My bad wood ash is not suppose to be mixed with ammoniums which is a common nitrogen fert as it creates ammonia.

THE best starting potting soil out there is POTTERS GOLD....Add nothing for 30 days...ok for seedlings.

FF Ocean Forrest is another "hot" soil that lasts 30+ days. The thing with FFOF is that you sould add 1/2 cup Dolomite lime to it and mix it in well. I have always had FFOF with pH stability problems over time and be too low in Mg over time - The dolomite will fix both issues.

Someone posted on putting in one soil then top with another - crap! Neither has the power to carry you through the grow.....

Want to get fancy with store bought soil and make the best soil yet?

Take 1 whole bag of FFHF (Happy frog)
1/2 bag of FFOF (ocean forest)
1/2 bag of Black Gold
2 lbs of Earthworm castings
5 gallon bucket of coarse perlite
1 cup Greensand
1 cup Dolomite

Mix well (Kiddie pools work well for this) and water - let stand 14 days.

This makes a nice around 30+ day no feed soil. After that you use Organic nutrients for feeding.

Want that soil to last longer then 30+ days no feed? Like maybe the whole run?
Add 2 cups Happy Frog Tomato and vegetable organic dry fertilizer or Epsoma Tomato tone dry fertilizer.....
This is mixed well in that pool again and then watered and left to stand for 30 days before use....

At week 5 of bloom I might sprinkle a tsp of a high P bloom feed on the surface and water it in nice. High P Bat or Bird guano's work well for that too....if your so inclined to try P boosting - not needed and you might do it without on 1 plant and with on another to "see" any difference and that should yell you if your going to do that again.

Once mixed and watered I put it in 50 gallon rolling trash cans - covered ones of course!

If you get 2 bags of FFHF soil you can make 2 batch's of the soil - around 8 sq feet of organic soil!
Sounds like a lot of work - it's rewarding.
While the soil mix is not cheap, you can "recharge" the soil after every use buy adding back 1/2 the amount of the nutrients/supplements (not the green sand - you only should replace that every 18 months of use - that means 18 months the soil had a plant in it!)
1/2 the EWC and
about a gallon of perlite.

Reused in regard to ORGANIC feeding only!

If you would like a home mixed liquid organic feed to use instead of water only soils. I can give you those too, if you would like...

Good Luck

You could use it if you want, but its not going to perform like some of the formulas that people are giving out here.

Saying "clay" isn't a proper answer either, you'll need to do a soil test, A little dish soap and water, and a jar.. So you can determine the content of sand, clay, and silt. And do things like the ribbon test. But adding potting soil to dirt outside will raise the organic matter, (you need around 5% Organic Matter) for it to be a good soil.

Plenty of flowers will grow in normal "dirt".. Many posters here are giving out some optimized formulas for cannabis unless you really want to use dirt from the outside. If you do go that route, you will have to ammend the soil for cannabis.

They sell it but really overpriced. At first in Denver. It's kinda funny. If you goto to home depot Murdoch's or Lowe's in Denver they are all getting into cannabis soil and nutrients.
really what they get for those 2 cb ft .they get 13$ my way

It depends how many plants and how much your willing to spend personally I take it that most people say don't use miracle grow but as long as it's not the extended release shit your fine I like to mix that with African violet soil because the African violate soil has the right ph for marijuana, if you order the fancy stuff not only are you paying exorbitant amounts especially if your using large containers as you should but your paying a fortune in shipping, miracle grow+hella perlite+African violet soil = a mix for bomb ass weed
