Hello Green Guruz,

need advice on a soil mix.
Here are the items I can get my hand on:

Organic potting soil with cow fertilizer.
Organic earthworm fertilizer.
Organic animal & plant fertilizer compost.
Humic acid fertilizer.
Sea fertilizer(sea weed, blood fert., carbon, ammonia acid, carbohydrates, yucca extract, NPK 16,16,16).
Perlite.
Vermiculite.
Fertilized peat moss.
Epsom salt.
Seaweed extract.
Mulch.
I can buy any liquid Nutes online, but these are the only items I can get my hand on.
Order soil online isn’t an option coz it will ship overseas (weight shipping cost will exceed the product cost by 3x).

Im doing a run with DTE Biolive, and Dolomite. Base soil is 3 parts promix, 1 part ewc, 1 part perlite.
Happy with it so far. Every few waterings i give it a dose of liquid kelp. Have some fish fert on standby if needed later on in flower.

Ok cool.
Question, how do I know or find out the correct amount?

Google is a great tool. There's also soil recipes on here.
I actually searched abt the mix for a while now.
Most of what I found is either pre mixed, famous brand mixing, or making a soil that takes month to finish.
I guess I got to figure it out somehow.
Anyways thanks for the info, much appreciated.

I must be really old and simple. I just use Fox Farm Happy Frog or Ocean Forest soil mixed with 30% perlite from the local hardware store. I grow for cancer friend and myself only though. I would probably never get any weed grown if I had to figure all that out, lol

This guy or gal, Budzbuddha, don't know which, but grows some awesome shit in very simple soil, convinced me that we all overthink the process. Go read this post. It is to the point and simple. Good luck

Thx buddy, but that thread talks abt fox farm soil while what I mentioned is a mix with no Product Name (which is the main point) since I can’t get my hands on.
All I can get my hands on are what I listed above.
I just want to know how to mix that stuff or the portions of mixing, any tip would help.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Adding organic nutes to your soil without "cooking" can result in low ph and burnt plants. If u dont have time to cook take it easy on N additives

Hey Budz, I don’t mean to be ungrateful, but I have no idea what u r talking about.
I just need either a mix formula or an explanation of what I’m supposed to do.
Don’t tell me google, coz I did. It’s either a mix with famous brands or cooking a super soil that takes half a year, or a mix of ingredients I can’t get.
Plz don’t feel offended I know u r trying to help, but I feel u don’t get my question.
Thanks anyways.

I'm glad it is working for you. Fox Farm gets a bad rap because when they opened a second location things went bad for a while and I think most of that has been resolved.
Good choice to follow Budz.

To help the 1st thing we need to know is everything that is in the "Organic potting soil with cow fertilizer"

Is that a soil mix that will grow a plant without anything being added?

Knowing what is in it will give an idea of what could be added.
The biggest mistake made by new growers who mix there own soil is adding to many things.
I'm really not a fan of the super soil mentality.
KISS - Keep It Simple Stoner is the best way to learn to grow in soil.

Meh, depends on what you mean by "super soil".
I think the recipe boatguy posted is excellent.
What more do you need? Bio-Live has it all -- and it's balanced.
The only unknown is the composition of the worm castings, so it's important to find a good source.
Consistency is the key.
Kinda pricey, but Malibu compost is a good option for many growers here in the US. It's usually available and very consistent.

There's no way happy frog or ocean forest will get you through flower without major deficiencies, but they are great for seedlings and early veg.

My only complaint is that they are usually overpriced and ocean forest contains a LOT of gravel. I mean seriously, they should call it "ocean floor".

I don't like rocks in my potting soil. Makes it heavy with no benefit.

Most people probably don't notice...

LOL! I was just about to reply to you about the dentist in TnT, I went through the same shit as you and I was going to say how I would treat myself to 1 1/2 hydrocodones and go into the office for whatever it was with a big smile on my face. Decided not to post it and encourage anyone to do it who may not stop afterwards.

On the topic of boatguys soil. I love his choice. I am a big fan of bio live.

By super soil what I mean is new growers see all these recipes and think they need to add all these things to grow a good plant.
Many times they over do it, I've seen a shit load of times where they add all kinds of things to a soil like ffof that already has everything.

What I'm saying to the OP is we need to know what his base soil is before giving him suggestions of what to add.

About the super soil, I should have said I am not a fan of a new growers making a super soil, starting with a soil in the mid range of hot and going water only and allowing a plant to develop normal deficiencies in veg like nitrogen and magnesium the most common ones with in a good soil mix will improve their growing skills much faster IMO.

I totally get what you are saying.
Seems like cannabis growers always want to love their plants to death by overfeeding, overwatering -- or both.
When mixing organic nutrients it's easy to get things out of balance -- especially with calcium and magnesium.
And when organic shit is fucked up, it's usually hard to fix quickly so people overreact and end up on a nutrient seesaw (not fun) :-?

Anyway, the above is just my opinion.

Here is 2c more.

Not directed to anyone just a general opinion directed toward newer growers.

Does anyone disagree that with a good soil being given water only the two most common deficiencies in veg are nitrogen and magnesium?

The plant will show the deficiency in the lower fan leaves because the plant will steal those nutrients from them unless the new grower sadly chose to defoliated those lower green fan leaves.

If the new grower focuses on two things, the difference between a nitrogen deficiency and a magnesium deficiency and can tell the difference then the fix is easy.

A small dose of epsom salt in water will quickly fix a mag def.

Several ways to stop a Nitrogen deficiency.

Small dose of fish emulsion works fast along with a top dressing of Bio Live that will carry the plant for at least 3 weeks.

Small doses of blood meal or a high N bird or bat guano will work fast to restore N.

EWC are an excellent addition to the above and will cure most ill's by themselves especially if they are fresh castings created by the grower.

3 or 4 weeks later another top dressing with EWC kelp meal and Bio live or other balance dry amendment will get the grower 3 or 4 weeks further.

An occasional watering of seaweed extract can be beneficial to a soil grow.

New growers would be better off not using molasses.

Of course none of this matters without properly watering the soil and having a good environment.
