Hey SoG, I use those black strongboxes that you mentioned in SB's thread.. VERY strong, I fill them almost all the way to the top with water, and no bulge at all, they're very sturdy, and pretty easy to clean as well.

Things are looking good with the prototype! Way to think it through.

ill be running the sites at half their capacity, 6 plants per site
clipping the main steam twice to get it to split into 4 main steams

Thanks YaK, what size strong box are you running?
i saw these things, they look and feel extremely sturdy
after seeing the rubbermaid stretching as it fills up,
i am looking for a different res

i love how the 4 3/4" fence tube came out,
ill be making all my sites out of the 4 3/4" fence tube instead of the 4"
much more room to run the sprayers inside, and for root to tangled freely
also have the room now to run the sprayers at half the height facing/pointing up

I use one of these.. and would recommend them in a heart beat...

Very strong... I have no qualms about putting 2 2x4 trays on top of it... it could hold 10 trays weight wise...

Sizes available are: 50, 70, 100, 150 and 300 Gallon ;-)

Edit: Mine is 100 gal filled to 60 gal

check out Lowe's,
i couldn't find a 5" post anywhere, they only have 4" or 4 3/4"
go with the 4 3/4 and don't look back, you'll love it

Rubbermaid Agricultural Stock Tank is the product's actual name...

I bought mine at the FEED/AGRICULTURAL store... about 100 bucks...

Pretty much indestructible if used as intended... VERY STURDY...

If I may say... it's the last tank you will buy...;-)

After the pics I saw on the first page, I figured your next post would be of 5 300 gallon stock tanks sitting next to each other... lol...

I'm just joking...:lol:

I'll use the o'l oil in the engine analogy here...

ANY oil is better than no oil... but the correct type of oil will serve you much better for much longer...

with that being said.. these stock tanks are MADE FOR THE JOB... totes are made to hold blankies...

Don't get me wrong, I have and still use the "blow-out" totes... but they sure make mess when they go...

Eventually I will have no more totes (2 totes left in the op).. just stock tanks... I hate my res being the weakest link in my op....;-)

I would stay away from these 37 gallon storage totes. The weight of the water will bow them out like crazy. They just aren't sturdy enough.

I'm running two of them for pre-mixing nutes and RO water storage and I'm looking for something else now.

Awesome set-up you have going by the way. Love the way you take your time and plan everything out they way it should be.

The res is only about 1/3 full in this photo. Looks like it is about to explode when full.

lol, I'm just going to get a feel for it
I've started lurking at more professional res, possibly with built in wheels
and a drain
the 40 gal panda res looks a good choice, they are to expensive IMO
i hope they make a larger version of the home depot "strong box"
if not il have to work with the 27 Gallon one, strong choice for $16
my goal is to have everything enclosed inside the res

Thank you Isthisnametaken, that pic just saved me the trip to "true value"
the strong box is what you want bro, its stackable, completely black, comes with a lid, and is rated at 700 lbs stacked, sturdy as a block
in my case I'm trying to fit everything inside the res, including the main tubes
I'm looking for bit more space to work with if possible, if your running the original Sb setup
these will be perfect replacement, will also allow you to run the sites a few inches shorter since they are a bit wider, but way shorter then the 18 gal roughnecks

just found these on sunlight cat, bummer they don't have a lid!
and they don't come cheap either, its 3/4 the coast of the 40G panda res
which who'd be my first choice at the moment for a pro grade res

WoW, you can tell how sturdy they are by the picture alone
they look nice, to bad they don't come with a lid

uh....

I can tell how sturdy they are based on the fact that I OWN ONE of the 100 gal tank... and between my "neighbors" and I there are at least 10 of those in different sizes performing flawlessly...

I am not guessing.... I know how strong they are...

As I said.. go out and touch one... then come tell us what you think... ;-)

I'm going to use a Stinkbud type setup for my next grow, similar to yours. I'm going to use two of these 2' x 4' dock floats with four channels going to each. These things are suppose to be super super sturdy.

The rubbermaid tubs that Gypsybush uses are also nice. My mom uses them for feeding livestock. I prefer something with a lid though.
