SoG Flood & Drain HELP++++rep

Alright so i'm about to jump into a major investment and would like some opinions on which way to go. So I'm def going to do a sea of green flood and drain setup on 4x4 foot tables. The thing i can't figure out is why people don't just cram as many 4 inch rockwool cubes on the table as they can like in this setup S.O.G method. I was hoping Al b. Fuct could jump in this thread and lay some knowledge down because i know he knows a lot about s.o.g and does it the other way with pepples and buckets instead of just rockwool. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Uncle al has gone legit, seldom does he pop in anymore.

Short answer, because too many plants restricts airflow, restrict roots, and it can be hard to get 100 some odd clones together in one shot.
Having said that, if you can deal with those issues, do it up.

Oh wow did not know he was gone haven't been one in awhile. thanks for the info though zeus. I do have access to a couple hundred clones at times thats why i was leaning toward cramming all the cubes together. As far as air flow i think you just trim alot of the bottom bull shit to create the "lollipop" effect but if someone could elaborate on this it would be helpful.

Zeus- how do i give u rep

do 6 inch cubes, and lollipop the clones, put a fan for circulation and make sure you have at least a 1000watt HPS over each 4x4 tray. Should work good if you don't need to move the plants from set to harvest.

Thanks soul, why do you say 6 inch more room between plants? check out this grow S.O.G method he uses the 4 inch

May sound like a stupid question but u physically wouldn't be able to pick up and move each cube because the roots would be tangled? makes sense and i figured that I just didn't really know if it stunned them badly.thanks again soul

Thats right, you see on my setup i have a 4x4 tray and its divided into four sections so that i can harvest a quarter of the tray every two weeks. So i'm constantly removing and adding now pots into my tray to maintain my cycle. If you structure it differently then you don't need to concern yourself.

Yeah it just seems too crowded. Thats 9 plants per square foot. Pretty condensed. Al. B Fuct recommends 1 plant per square foot for his SOG setup.
Yeah i knew that has a lot of plants per sq ft, it's crazy, but that guy seems to be getting a decent amount per plant even. what method do you think works better IF you have access to a lot of clones. thanks again man

How do i give u rep soul?

That is a good idea and i have seen that method but i'm going to have multiple tables all finishing at different times and i don't want to mix strains on the same table for the sake of nutes and all that. How would u get to the middle of the table during like week 3 to get all the lower bs trimmed off though with out moving the plants in just the straight cube method

I have been trying like crazy to find a post by Al that indicated a number/sqft...

But if I remember correctly

His trays are 35.4" square..or 8.7sqft...

with 20 to 23 clones fer tray.. that works out to... 2.3 to 2.6 plants/sqft...

my tray is 41" square or 11.7sqft... and I use a 600 per tray

I fit 36x 1 gallon pots per tray and that works out to...

3.08 plants/sqft...

So...

Am I really stoned and totally off..???:o

Yo gypsy, how much dry weight u get off each plant @ 3.08/sq. ft.

I am going to try for 4 /sq. ft. and see how it works out.

None of those... they are not done yet...

But I get between1/2 to 3/4 oz per...

Good luck...

Also how big are your pots, and how tall do your girls get.

I started off with 4" RW but am going over to 6" pots.
1 gallon pots... so far about 20" is the tallest...

I think that sounds about right for my pots as well...6" but I KNOW they are 1 gallon...

al's method is 4 per sq ft and so is mine any more than that and you run the risk of mold infesting your op if humidity levels ever get right for it. and bud density is affected to some degree, not critical but noticeable.

Thanks for all the help everyone, i'm definitely leaning towards the pots now, i'm guessing i should go with the 6 inch pots but are they just standard plastic pots that you would just use for soil or are they the net pots? I know it sounds like a stupid question but i would appreciate the help. How many 6 inch pots could i put in a 4x4 tray? Do you just put hydroton in he pots along with the 4 inch rw? can u just jam as many 6 inch pots as u can in the tray or do u have to space them more?

How do i give u guys plus rep?

Thanks for all the help everyone,
You are welcome...

i'm definitely leaning towards the pots now,
Smart... you will be happy with your decision...

i'm guessing i should go with the 6 inch pots
Mine are 7" tall... can't remember the diameter now...

but are they just standard plastic pots that you would just use for soil or are they the net pots?

Regular pots... with holes on the bottom...

I know it sounds like a stupid question but i would appreciate the help.
Nope.. not stupid.. but just use solid pots

How many 6 inch pots could i put in a 4x4 tray?
As many as you can fit, IF you are doing single colas...

Do you just put hydroton in he pots along with the 4 inch rw?
Yup.. but make sure the RW cubes are above the flood level...

Like this drawing by AL B. Fuct...

can u just jam as many 6 inch pots as u can in the tray or do u have to space them more?
If you are doing lollipops, all they need is the diameter of the pot...

How do i give u guys plus rep?
Not sure which skin you are using, but there is a scale on the top right of every post in the version I am using... (which is green and has the RIU logo on top left of every page...)

Best of Luck... :eyesmoke:
