Smoke and Windows

I'm moving into an apartment this coming month. If I smoked in it and blew the smoke out a window, could the police search my apartment if someone reported it? I might get in on the top floor. I don't think anyone would smell it from up there, smoke rises. So they would just see smoke, it might as well be cigarette smoke.

What if the room smelled of weed when the manager or maintenance came in? Could anything unfortunate come of that besides them trying to steal my stash?

I'm not, I'm just asking if the cops can legally search my place because someone reported seeing and smelling cannabis smoke.
No, they would have to get a little more evidence to get a warrant to search your house than someone reporting it. If they ever knock on your door, do not let them come in, talk to them outside and don't consent to a search. But I don't think anyone will report you anyways, maybe I'm wrong.

at my favorite place to go smoke, I get seen by people all the time. But it's an apt complex, and since the cops can't see me from the street, and it's private property, they can't roll up on me.

I wouldn't worry about it, its an apartment complex, you'd be surprised how many people smoke there.

On the legal matter, someone who smells pot probably cannot determine the source, especially if you are on the top level, and if they somehow did, it would not be enough for the cops to worry about, because they could not get a warrant from the judge.

However, if a cop was about and he smelled your pot and determined its source, that gives him probable cause, but again, I doubt he would be able to determine the source. Pot smoke dissipates quickly out in the open air.
