i'll contribute... here's a pic of my unknown birdeye pepper... she is on her second year of growth... saved her from my grandfather's house last year and she was about 5in tall with 3leaves:cry:.... she got this big once i took her and gave her some TLC... just now is starting to show some new growth for this year... plan on transplanting her into the garden sometime soon:hump:

the sprouts you see in the background of the one pic are carrot and 4 O'clocks

absolutely... im not sure if you can keep them indefinately though... but for a few years, as long as you keep it away from frost, it should continue to grow, and produce each year....

some of them will even come back after dying... i've got some tabascos that are sprouting up again from dead stumps... pics of those to come soon... my grandfather has a few come back every year

if i move them indoors to my grow, will they fruit through winter?

ive recently discovered my love of growing herb extends to other flora as well. i want an indoor veggie grow as well, maybe strawberries too.:hump:

im not sure.... but i know what you're talking about on the second point... i grow ANYTHING now... planted some strawberries and passion flowers today:mrgreen:

i want a couple varieties outdoor and at least one inside too for winter production.


i started breaking up my old garden bed yesterday. we havent done anything with it in years, the prarie grass has taken over. i spent a couple hours with a pitchfork turning it over and pulling out massive root systems.

anyone got any good bed-prep tips? anything you do to your soil every year/every other year?

still tring to find strawberry seeds out here .....

i now have 3 of those jiffy green house trays ...
2 with 50 spots each
and the other has 72

if everything works out ill have 150 plants ready to go out side in a couple weeks :)

yup, i just got to wake up and have another. im having trouble gettin them now though. probly the artificial pollination:wall: i only bought like 5 plants from lowes but the rest came from 3 trays like 420weedman has. i have about 10-11 2-3ft tomato plants outside along with 4 sunflower plants, and i have a lil under 50 pepper plants going, 30 of which are still inside. and then i have one yellow strawberry plant that grows crazy slow. oh ya and a thai yellow egg plant thats outside. ill try to get pics

The key for my Allotment should come later today or tomorrow.

15' x 150' of weed filled fertile growing soil... all mine.....£20 a year!

Looking forward to starting cultivation this weekend.

Gonna start with a four bed rotating system.... any of you guys tried it.... I'm pretty sure it's an adaption of the Native indian 3 crop rotation.

Anyone has any experiance with companion planting?

Yeah, In the UK we have something called Allotments....strip farming basically.

I believe under UK law, the authorities are obligated to provide you with land to grow your own food if you request it.

Many allotment sites have long waiting lists but I got one after only a couple of weeks.

Mine's in a feild of about 80 allotments, each is 210 - 300m/sq (Mine's a big'un :-P)...

All part of trying to be more self sufficient.... trying to free myself from MONEY and what not (check out my sig)... and just trying to eat better food generally.

That's easy, they are self cloning. They shoot out runners. You let the runner sit on the dirt until it forms roots then cut off and you can move it then.

WalMart has strawberry plants in lawn and garden, they have bags with the onion sets that are basically a strawberry root system. You plant it and it'll grow. They'll only 3 bucks for a bag of 10 or 12.

thats where i gots mine from.... wife picked up a pack of 10 rooted plants for $10 at walmart

I buy live plants from Walmart and I've never had any trouble. Sometimes I wait until they've almost killed them and get them for 10 cents or some crap like that. I have some nice mini roses that I paid 10 cents per for, had them for about 5 years now.

Don't buy plants at Kmart, I bought a willow tree there years ago and it had rust, which is something plants in these parts don't get. It damn near died on me, but got 'er fixed.
