I had to get a replacement SS card a couple of months ago and it was a real hassle, all the docs and waiting at the SS office, a real PITA. Then I see last week our state (one of the few left) finally allowed SS card replacement via internet. FML
Luckily our local BMV is pretty low key and it's not bad to get a new license. I don't have a REALID one though, but I don't plan on flying anywhere. That's what started the whole SS card search.
PS: I found my old original SS card, lol
Our DMVs are closed. Mine was compounded as my birth certificate reads: "Barn Asshole Buster" but I was always known as "Asshole Barn Buster" from an early age, thus my original SS, DL and all subsequent docs don't exactly match my BC.

I got mine in the 60's and needed it for the REALID. First time I needed it in decades, too. I think one company asked to see it prior to hire but that's it.

Yeah, I was going to get a RealID too when I went to the DMV photo center but since I don't have to go there now the hell with it. All they do is put a star on your new license.
I can always get it through my local state representative's office but I haven't flown since the '70s anyway and it does cost money for that. You would think a RealID would be free if they wanted people to have them. They just want more money.

I recently had my address changed on my license.
They asked if I wanted the RealID.
The only difference in the one I have and the RealID is $50.00.
When asked what is needed to get the RealID they recited each piece of ID that I gave when I was 16 and got the first one.
I firmly believe it is a money grab and the skies will be no safer for the drain on my wallet.

I have zero doubt that there are people making passable fake RealIDs somewhere anyway. It's just a plastic card.Greed/more money.
