i think everyone should go to Barack Obama and Joe Biden: The Change We Need | Contact Barack Obama and leave him a message about why the drug war should be ended...ask him what he'll do about it... heres what i sent

I've looked and really haven't seen this asked...is President Obama going to do anything about the states with medical pot laws?

he wants open government...yet the drug czars job description pretty much says they are to lie to the American people and cover any info that the drug laws are flawed!

you got sick people, paraplegics, old dieing people, cancer and aids patients that are following there state approved laws getting raided by the DEA hand cuffed to there wheelchairs sent to jail where there medical needs can't be met dieing...over a plant that there doctors told them to smoke...

the drug war is mostly a joke...its a waste of money...it puts people in jail when they need treatment...it makes our government lie to us...frankly pot needs to be reclassified as it is now research on any possible use for it besides putting sick people in jail can't even happen...

Mr. President you've openly admitted to using pot in your youth....please end this injustice against our people, this waste of resources and man hours...do you have any idea how much money would be pushed into the economy if pot was regulated like beer tobacco or any other drug your doctor can prescribe you?

What does potus have to do with state or federal pot laws?
President can't pardon cannabis or remove the laws from the books.

What you can do, is hound your senator/congressmen and local reps.

The President often asks congress to pass specific pieces of legislation for him. They don't have to, but members of his party usually do.

The President can pass executive orders that are, in essence, law. All Obama would have to do would be to order the DEA, which is part of the executive branch, to stop raiding cannabis clubs in med legal states. Another thing he could do, would be to direct the DEA to reposition cannabis from a schedule I drug, to a schedule II drug. Most of the problems we have with cannabis laws would be solved right there.

I only know of one way to cannabis reform, that's legal.
we don't want laws to be ignored, we want them changed.
Besides, ignoring it isn't good enough anymore.
That's not reform and not even close to legalization.

The president is in the executive branch. The legislative branch is congress, which is where laws are passed.
The president can suggest a modification of a current law to congress, but he himself can not willingly do it, unless a cannabis crisis was to occur, under order of pdd 51, the president is capable of assuming temporary dictator roles.

I agree. We want full legalization. this is a plant that grows from the ground damnit.

Not to mention, just because Obama says to ignore the marijuana laws to the DEA doesnt mean it's going to happen that cut a dry. that will leave a wide open market for corruption, extortion and blackmail, worse than there already is.

And, how motherfucking hypocritical is it to "turn a blind eye" like that? All thats saying is "we don't care and we still wont recognize you as a law abiding citizen."

What a slap in the face!

I agree that cannabis should be legalized. In fact, I believe that what I, or any other American smokes, snorts, injects, or ingests, is none of the federal government's business. But then, I live with the reality that that is way more freedom and liberty than most Americans can stand.

Its just a way to control the "different people". The thought (to a non-toker) that someone is living in an "alternate reality" scares people.

I also belive it has something to do with the fact that pot makes you think. And when you think you start to question things your government does instead of accepting it blindly.

Not to mention we are a peaceful group of people. North Americans hate that.

Now I think that is quite vague. It would be cool if it was so easy...If Im not mistaken part of the whole thing has to do with the FDA too which covers food and drugs. Not just the DEA or president or congress could get er done solely... because states dont have to observe any federal laws anyhow...they get to make their own.

Hey, chuck ...

A friend of mine is from Peru. He has dual citizenship and can travel and do business in both countries. Right now, he has an auto service center in Peru. The Peruvian government is trying to get the citizens off of gasoline because their oil is imported from Venezuela ... and they are at odds with Chavez. So, they are converting everyone over to natural gas. My friend converts the cars from gasoline to natural gas. The cost is about $2500 per car. If a person doesn't have the money for the conversion, the government loans the money. In that event, there is a sensor devise that is installed in the filler-tube, so when the person buys "gas" at the station, the sensor adds ten-cents per gallon until the loan is repayed, at which time the sensor devise is removed from the car. Peru is sitting on massive ... like trillions of tons of natural gas, so they have plenty to last the next few hundred years. Boone Pickens is talking about converting our trucking industry over to natural gas because we have large deposits of it too. Natural gas is clean burning and its right here at home.

natural gas is good, and it is alot better than buying oil from the middle east, but like Nuclear its not PERFECT, wind isn't PERFECT and neither is solar power. But we don't need PERFECT there is a give and take in everything. We need to get the nuclear plants builts ASAP, we need to get the wind mills up, we need to get the solar panels up (how about solar shingles for every house?). we need to get the trucks running off natural gas. Unless you want to keep sending billion of dollars to the middle east (ain't talking about the war) unless you want to keep gauging out are mountains and polluting the air with coal smoke, there needs to be some kind of compromise.
