Seedlings and MH

First five of ten beans sprouted and broke surface of the jiffy pellets. I have them in hempy solos running 100% Coco for now (a bit of water retention till roots hit the resevoir). I have them under my one grow light (1000w dimmable to 600 and 400w, cooltube). They're currently about 32'' below the light and here's the question:

Does the put your hand under the light and use that as a measurement still count here? On 400 I can pretty much touch the tube itself and it's only uncomfortable there. Maybe 6 inches under the light I can barely "feel" the light. So can I get them right up under it or is aiming for distance better here? I don't want them to stretch wildly or get burned. Thanks in advance.

400 is still a little strong for seedlings to be honest, youll not get an insane stretch - hps would cause it more so than mh, but you will notice a little.

I'd use T5 fixture or even CFL for seedlings or clones.
personally I've been using 300w viper LED's for seedling or clones but plan on using the T5 as the LED's seem to require more calmag.

Best advice I can give - keep the light 24-32 inches away until you've a set of actual leaves at least.

Another light isn't an option at the moment. So is it just the intensity of the light that is the issue regarding distance if heat is well under control?

I understand, don't worry I'm not telling you to run out & buy one - more just for future.
You're light is brilliant, I use HID myself.
Yeah, it's the intensity - bit strong but I've ran with 400mh & HPS in the past.
But I use led or T5 for seedlings or clones personally.

But they'll be fine, I'd keep it at your height until they show actual leaves - then lower it.

Is this seedling droopy in the cots bc of overwatering (can't imagine how in Coco hempy) or is it just big saggy tits?
Those droopy leaves aren't actually leaves - those & the tap root are what split the seed.
They'll actually fall off, eventually.

Those pointy ones are actual leaves.

I'll upload a few pics of my current seedlings & plants ranging from a few days to 2 weeks so you can see what to expect & what I mean - in the morning.

That's for nothing & absolutely brilliant for seedlings or clones.

Check out eBay @Lachrymology - your 400 will work but it's using far more power than you need, which is going to waste.
Yeah great for seedlings I use a 600 w vented hood for flower . I run a perpetual grow though the winter cloning after I get the genetics I want to work with
So I veg under a diy combo cfl and led mix spectrum.

I'm familiar with cotyledons I've just never seen them that much larger than the two serrated leaves. Proportionally speaking.

Pics of a timeline for the seedlings would be dope. Don't see those too often. Also how long will it generally take to outgrow a solo cup? Two weeks?

I use the 600w myself, but switch Dutch barn reflectors in winter for the extra heat seeing as I'm in the uk.

How do you find vegging under the LEDs & CFL combo? id been using 300w vipers but switching to a T5 - they seemed to need far more calmag Imo & I wanted to go a tad more organic.
Interested if you've noticed that, or if the combo reduced the deficiency.

I'd transplant when they're roughly 10/14 days or so - size & strain being the main factor rather than age.

Well, not really a time line - just various strains I'm currently growing which are around the same stage as yours. Aurora being 14-18 days to AK - which only three out of ten have broken soil yet.

i personally grow clones, but running 60 odd plants from seed to select mothers.

Is this your first grow?

Yes. I've been trying to absorb everything I can since lurking overgrow back around 2000. I feel like in seventeen years I should know everything you can without experience but with my questions obviously I don't lol

I plan on starting a journal once things are more along the veg process. Don't think anyone wants to look at seedlings for a few weeks. I don't.

I know what you mean, its a tough one - I first tried growing without doing any research & failed miserably - several times. Lol
But we all start somewhere, I was a fucking torture asking questions when I started ha.

But it's one of those things, you need to research & physically experience imo. Your research is priceless though, because you'll be able to identify an issue or deficiency before it progresses.

Grow journals are brilliant, Im a bit old school, pen & paper. But I keep a journal on every grow documenting the smallest of things & keeping pics in a separate iCloud account - purely for future reference & to improve results.
All grows start somewhere & it's always best to start from germination.

I certainly appreciate all the amazing information on RIU, overgrow etc. I'm also well aware of knowing one's place and navigating waters cautiously as to avoid smashing into ego-bergs in the Daring Sea

Idk if it's strange but unless it's by my own perfect execution I hope for some minor issues just to get used to dealing with them from jump.

Awk look, you'll get your assholes everywhere. Take them with a pinch of salt - but the majority of people/growers here will genuinely do their best to help.

Check out "grow weed easy .com" too, it's literally full of brilliant information.

Ahaha, most would pray for a smooth grow with no issues - but that's practically impossible. There's usually something, it's just reading your plants & picking up on it before it develops.
Plus, experiment a little with various growing techniques & what not - especially topping/fim-ing.

Yeah I plan on topping several between the second and third node and a few just topping at the 6th like most and some LST see what happens.
