I am going to transplant into 3gal smart pots. I think I am going to finish in these unless I absolutely need the room of a 5gal. You are right, I am a noob so I don't want to transplant too many times. Another quick question, my cole train has yet to show leaves since I pulled the seed shell off, other then that it looks healthy. Should I transplant her or just cut my losses?

The seedling has no leafs at all?? ......I strongly suggest you transplant into a smaller container before transplanting into those 3 gallon.....transplanting multiple times is actually a good thing as long as your plants root system is well established ....when you transplant seedlings into big containers you more than likely will run into over watering issues....

Ok! I was waiting to hear your response before doing anything! I really appreciate all the help from you, I know you know your sh*t! So new plan is solo cups and then into 3gal smart pots. Sound like a better plan to you?

Yeah when she first popped the seed shell was stuck to her and it didn't want to come off, so I put some water on it and then pulled it off with some tweezers. She still hasn't shown her cotyledons yet but there is a little green there. I'll see if I can post a pic here in a couple minutes.

Definitely..............they can stay in those solo cups for a few weeks before they need to be transplanted...

Will do! Ive read a couple ways to ensure drainage and am a little confused. Should I just cut 4 slits on the side at the bottom or would it be better to poke some holes on the bottom of the cup?

i put seedlings into a hot soil and a month later they looked like they were a week old. i canned the whole batch and started again. i have no idea what i was thinking. no perlight and a hot soil!
OH:here's a pic of them at ONE MONTH in a hot soil! never again! the seedlings in the pot aren't a month old just the cups.

always poke holes in the bottom! poking some in the side is OK but not necessary. i keep plants in party cups for as long as i have to. i regularly go 50 - 60 days until i can move them into the flower room.

Ok guys! I cut a small hole in each one and then poked 4 holes in the bottom with a thumb tack! I have them all transplanted now. I watered with RO water until I saw some run off and put them into the germination box with the dome on! Got some light on them and out a damp paper towel in there with them. I will post some pictures as soon as they get to my email. There was a ton of roots at the bottom of each root! I think they were really looking for more room. Maybe this is why the cotyledons leaves were starting to droop a little bit? Well, now I will wait for them to get dry and water again!

Sounds good. And careful with the cal-mag there's a decent amount of nitrogen in it. But with RO water it is required to supply ur calcium and magnesium that are typically present in tap water.Ok guys! For sure! I skipped the CalMag this water. I figures the soil should have enough in it out of the bag. Is that right?

Yes...good advice.........I generally supplement with 80-120 ppm @.5 conversion of cal/mag
