So the book on the far right is one I've worn out a few times over, and has helped me breed tomatoes, roses, collard greens, sweet peas, hell even rabbits lol.
Thanks to her my cultivars have handled climates from zones 4 through 8, and soils of all types from clay to sand.
Not to mention flavors most couldn't imagine
The two on the left I recently picked up and began reading by dj short and Greg green for some insight into cannabis breeding.
I got carols book back in 2001 and she layed out breeding concepts in a way that that idiots like me could comprehend
So far...I think I'm going to stick with carol

Are there better cannabis based publications or authors out there?

Ok so ive read dj shorts book and wouldn't suggest it.
All I got is a bunch of spiritual mumbo jumbo and a very speedy and incomplete look at mendellian genetics.
Greg greens breeders bible reads like a text book, so far he's covered Carl von Linne's classification system, the relationship between Jean Baptiste de Lamark and Charles Darwins works, and Nicolai Vavilov's discovery of sativa and indica varieties.
More importantly in chapter 2 he goes into great depth explaining the Hardy Wienberg model of genetic equilibrium, including his formulas and percentages as well as how we use them to determine genetic frequency.
Chapter two reads straight out of a molecular biology textbook and is very comprehensive.
I'm sure dj short is an incredible breeder, but his book does no favors.

Are you looking for general grow info, or for breeding info? For general grow info, the forums are a great resource, when coupled with basic plant health knowledge. For breeding info, it would be a good idea to do some studying on Mendelian genetics. You need to understand how genes work and how they are passed on, in order to successfully attain any kind of specific breeding goals aside from making random crosses.

I've got basic Mendel down with my agriculture background.
Im looking for cannabis specific info on gene expression and traits to look for.
Mendel is great but if you want to get into the nitty gritty of expression percentages and breeding to homozygous expression you've got to bone up on Hardy Wienbergs's research
Greg Greene's book is pretty much what I needed. With his book I have a better understanding of what a "stud male" should provide and what to look for.
IE, tight flower clusters, late sex expression, scent characteristics, hollow stem, nodal spacing, branching structure,
Trichome production, root ball, nutrient uptake, fade at or before pollen drop, ability to reveg.
This plant telegraphs its alleles way more than most of the other species I've bred.
This will not be difficult.

No problem. If you've already got some plant breeding experience, Cannabis breeding shouldn't be too challenging. It'll just be about keeping detailed records, and proper planning for your goals. Good luck!
