Sativa scrog

Has anyone any first hand experience with stretchy sativa’s and scrog? With a heavy indica I would normally fill the net 90% before flip, let it fill out the last 10% and grow upwards in stretch, I feel that would be way too much with a possible 3x stretch minimum so curious if I should aim for 70-80% or if that’s going to still leave it too crowded?

Hard to predict stretch until you’ve run the strain. Some really don’t stretch that much while others go nuts. I’d say fill as you are used to and just keep weaving.

I am currently running Laughing Buddha in a scrog, 3 plants each 2 weeks apart, then flipped all at the same time, so at flip the oldest was 10 weeks, middle at 8 weeks and youngest was 6 weeks. I tried to keep them close to the same canopy level using the net, so the oldest is obviously much bushier than the youngest. Here they are this morning.

I plan on starting a new journal, just too lazy the last few weeks. I have grown a few other sativas indoors, always with a scrog and never had a real problem with height. I have 8’ ceilings which helps and super crop when they get too tall, but yes it can easily be done. Hardest thing is waiting 16-20 weeks for flower while keeping them healthy in my opinion, but well worth the wait.

Thanks for the replies, I think I’ll have to just go for it, I know it’s a 3x stretch so I’ll probably aim for around 80% in the screen and if it looks a bit out of control I’ll have to sacrifice a few branches. I only have two plants in a 4x4 and ones bigger than the other so it’s not going to be easily predictable. I’ve got a few different ones with similar stretch to grow over the next year so it’s all learning

I would go for it, things to keep in mind is height of your net above the medium, and how much training you want to do. I started with my net about 5” above the coco, but have moved it up to 10” now. I would recommend 6” to 8” if first starting sativas, top a couple times and lst them to stay low and fill your net. Flip when they are just about filling the net and the outer ones just go through. Super crop when you run out of room if it happens. Lollipop once they are 6” above the net, and get rid of all bud sites that are below the net.

They’ve been topped a few times already as I I took cuts to make a few seeds then decided to keep a couple for bud. Currently very bushy for sativa but I have been told about the stretch. I currently have the scrog net quite low but I was thinking about moving it up then possibly adding another just for support.

That looks fantastic, you got this easy. How high is your tent, or how much room do you have now to lift your light?
Unfortunately height isn’t on my side, it’s a roof cube so it’s 6 feet in the middle but with the panel lights, fan and filter I only get 3 feet of height. It’s why in prepares to chop a few branches if I misjudged it. I have done a few sativa dominant strains but they’ve not stretched much more than indicas. Throw in the 14 weeks flowering and I can appreciate why commercial growing has pushed sativas aside lol

I run a few sativas in my net from time to time. It’s definitely better to have the double net for support as those linky branch’s stretch they get weak when the buds too heavy and start bending limbs early. Looks nice I would do the 90 percent full method and interweave my branch’s if they start to get a little crowded as they will thin out during flowerings

Definitely appreciate the feedback, I don’t mind learning by mistakes but I definitely still want enough information to get what I can out of this.
