Nobody thought Nixon could go either. There were plenty of cynics like you who said it was a distraction.
No way Republicans will vote to impeach and remove. Doesn't mean the investigation is a "distraction". As justin points out there are other ways to give justice. Your cynicism paralyzes you, stunts your thinking and makes you unlikeable. No progress can be made with your mindset. You would let them win.
The investigation is important in that it will bring to light what is held in the dark. The truth is always better than the lie.

I didn't say not to bother. I said I don't have any faith that the system will actually enforce Justice.
That's not fatalism, it's realism.
And I'll still vote for who I think it's best for the job, rather than who might win- because the winners forget their constituents in our system.

Trump was elected by people who voted for him, not by people who wouldn't vote for Clinton- whom, as I've said on many occasions, I actually did vote for. I won't make that mistake again.
