Rosin Press Attempt 2

Working with @RadicalRoss on improving our technique. VASTLY better yields than last time, getting up there, at least hitting the "average" mark now.

Wedding Cake
17.9 Grams Flower (over two runs)
3.1 Grams Yield (17.3%)

Conjugal Visit
17.5 Grams Flower (two runs)
2.2 Grams Yield (12.6%)

Put 62% boveda packs back in with the buds two weeks ago. These buds are ~1 month into the cure.

Overall an improvement. We tested 75 and 120 micron bags- probably only going to do the 120 going forward. Only slight difference in color and the yield was better.
We ran the press at like 190 F- my cohort probably remembers better. Reading around I think I might start at 190 then bump it to ~210 once it's being pressed on the next try.

Any tips from your rosin pressing experiences are welcome- we're using a 6 ton bottle jack style press.

What does everyone else run their temps at? Do you vary it by strain or just get something that hits that sweet spot for you?

At a glance I'm seeing 200-220 which is a little hotter than we ran it today.

My press is easily 10f off, or low

I run mine at 200, which is more like 190 ish.

Just remembered. So strains don't produce much, some produce a lot.
New usually squish more and better than old flower.


I am also a fan of no bags. So much stays in the bag. I have been trying the open ended bag squish, can't remember what it's called, so far that is pretty good too

How big are your plates where you have adequate pressure off a 6 ton?

I think it's 3x5 and we used 2x4 bags (not 100% on that - borrowed press and I got HIGH after)

It was set to 180. My IR gun says that the setting is pretty accurate, though I don't know how much I trust that on a reflective surface.

My intention was to start on the lower end of the range to try and retain as many terpenes as possible in the end product. I've heard that higher temps produce higher yields but less quality material, it's definitely something I intend on experimenting with more as I get a feel for it.

I'm gonna hold out for my own rosin press until the commercial grow is up and running. A buddy with a commercial extract business recommended I get this one:


3/4 lb of flower per press sounds pretty nice!

Definitely worth testing out, after dabbing both the 78 and the 120 micron rosin I can honestly say I don't really notice much/any difference. Probably going to stick with 120 going forward, seems to be the sweet spot for my flower.
