RO water accumulation.

After a horrible 2017 of seriously fucking up plants with feeding and PM, I’m trying again for 2018.

First things first, I Clorox bleached the shit out of my tents and everything that goes inside.

Now I picked up a reverse osmosis unit. Little bitty thing, puts out about 3 gallons an hour.

My question for the day is can I use accumulated RO water 2 days from now, or would it go ‘stale’ for any reason.

Here are my 12 current seedlings.

I have filled and stored copious amounts of RO water for extended periods of time. Also because I had a small RO unit. Just filled a bunch of the big bottled water, water machine bottles.
From my experience it is good for months if not forever.

Lol, no it doesn't go stale, if the container it's in is clean then it'll keep indefinitely.

But really the idea of RO water is to remove excess minerals and other contaminants, but it is NOT necessary if you have decent tap water with under 100 ppm. Obsessing over ultra-clean water is a waste of time and money otherwise.

When I lived in Idaho, the well water I was on was bad, smelled of sulfur and left red stain on all the fixtures, so I installed a small RO unit. I installed it under the kitchen sink upstairs, then ran the tube through a hole downstairs and into one of the heavy duty 28 gal totes.

I hooked it up to a toilet tank valve mounted and sealed at the base of the tub with the float set so it would shut off the water at about 3/4's full, made a nice sturdy stand for it, and mounted a hose bib/faucet to make it easy to fill up 5-gal buckets. Worked like a champ, always had about 20 gals of RO water on hand ;?).

...and you are aboot to have another bummer of a year...

unless you add some calmag each watering..

as you have removed at the goodies outta that water

better at each watering to go 50/50 with your tap water

that way your seedlings will get some minerals

next potup add some 30% perlite to that soil mix

note the 38% Rh ..? time to hang some wet jeans

a small fan will assist stomata?

avoid pooling water in saucers as pythium loves them roots

Do you have any idea what the TDS is comprised of, i.e. just basic minerals? I ask this because depending on the part of the country you in, it could just be harmless minerals, in others it's lead, arsenic or other pollutants including bacteria in well water. You could just go with a filter system, but since you already have the RO system, you could just fill up 5-gal buckets and store it.

The danger with this being because RO filters, especially small ones, can take forever to fill that much, you might forget and end up with water all over the place. That was what led me to make that setup, cuz I went to bed and forgot about the bucket in the kitchen, but when I woke up in the middle of the night to take a piss, I found standing water in the bathroom and kitchen, lol, a real mess to clean up, especially at 2 am ;?D

My feelings exactly, if there's nothing bad in the water, then why treat it, other than to get rid of the chlorine (could just bubble 5-gal buckets at a time if it's bad). Now if I lived in Flint, Michigan, I'd probably want to bath in filtered water and RO anything else, lol.

I know some hydro users obsess over clean water, but if you know what minerals are already in your water (should be able to find out), and there's nothing abnormal in there, then just subtract the starting ppm/ec to find out the true value of your nutes, at least that's what I did.

We keep forgetting that this is a weed, and pretty easy to get most conditions right, and water should generally be the least of your concerns as long as it doesn't contain toxic shite ;?)

That’s why I want to know if I can accumulate 5 gal buckets, so I’m not filling at an odd hour and forgetting about it.

Awesome, thanks. I feel I’m on my way to great success based on your post.

1. I used 10 ml of Cal-Mag with the 3 gallons of water. Didn’t want to give it the full 5ml/gal yet. Just using Base nutrients with some CalMag on this grow.

2. Coco mix contains about 25% Perlite, so I didn’t feel the need to add any added Perlite from the giant bag I have.

3. I love these new saucers I just picked up.

4. Fans a buzzing in the corner, going to add a little bigger fan after the Clorox bleach is all dry.

5. Looks like my RH has changed since I watered.

Good luck with the cleaning, I've had my share of problems over the years, currently dealing with a recurring leaf blight/spot which I believe is a fungus. I read a few articles about fogging with hydrogen peroxide - it's oxidative properties kill all kinds of baddies including bacteria, viruses and mold/fungi.

So I bought a quart of 35% peroxide (some health food homeopathic supplies sell it for fairly reasonable prices and don't bother with the special DOT shipping, lol). I diluted it to around 8% tonight and used 2 humidifiers and fans/blowers to move the air around and decided to let them run until empty, although first I started by running one in front of the central air intake with just the fan on for 15 minutes to hopefully clean anything hiding in ducting.

I opened the room to check inside a couple of times, and both times it only took about 10 seconds before my eyes started stinging, so I think it might be working. It ran for about 4 hours using about 2/3rds of the solution when I decided to turn them off and just left one fan and the heat on to dehumidify the room, and with any luck it'll be fungi-free, but only time will tell ;?D

Things look good so far. Note* its still easy to forget abought your filling bucket and make a mess. Take it from someone whos tried to flood there basement lol. Get yourself a 35 gal trash container. If your ro system is the micRO 75 then you can get a floatvalve for it that will shut er down automaticly.
Note* Better to dry than to humid expecially for you there pm king! Lol jk but 80 is a bit high i try never to go over 70. My area right now is at 15% and they are doing fine. I did lessen there feed by 10% to keep from over feeding. Remember your last grow i mentioned the relashionship between the amount of light and feeding. Lesson 2 lol- plants resperate less in humid enviroments. Less resperation means the plant is pulling in less water this means your nutrient solution needs to be a bit higher. Plants pull in more water in dry enviroments this means less food in the water if you dont want to go toxic. They look great so far keep doing what your doing and remember what you learnt last grow and you will have a great harvest in 3 or so months

Day 25. Rh has floatd between 11 and 18% Stupid Winter!

Get a float valve kit for your RO res. Don't risk forgetting to shut the water off.

Add a Cal/Mg? You betcha if it's hydro! Or a soilless run.

In soil, properly built soil. Not really a "need" to. I don't, haven't for years. I haven't gotten a Ca/Mg problem.
Keeping the pH tight helps this.

The one thing nobody remembered to add. Put some air lines into your stored RO. You want as much dissolved O2 in that water as you can get.....
Flat, no O2 in water can bring on other problems and limit potential growth factors.

I run a cpl of 55 gallon tanks and have 2 lines in each....Get that float shutoff kit, mentioned earlier! Your unit will supply all you need for those few plants overnight.
If you expand and need more water. A high pressure water pump for RO units is available for reasonable prices on Ebay.

Popping seeds in no O2 water is a path to failure. Big time!
The seeds use that dissolved O2 to survive and take the next step from the seed cracking open to being a viable seedling.

If you use a good plastic container (such as a water jug that came with distilled water in it) and keep it sealed it will last about 3 days before it starts going south.

Remember: RO water (especially RO/DI water) has ZERO preservatives in it. NONE. There's no phosphors or chlorine or fluoride to keep the water from going stale, so if you don't use it by day three, chunk it.

That's why I only make the water I'm going to use that day. Period.

DO NOT be stupid and put air lines in your RO water. All you do by doing that is pump air with all the contaminates it contains into your 100% pure water.

You completely defeat the purpose by doing that.

Depending on his nutrients he may not need cal-mag added to his water. I run RO and do not use any cal-mag supplementation of my RO water in coir dtw. My nutrients carry a 5% to 1.5% of cal-mag ratio.
