What a great fish! I've seen old photos of some of the huge ones they hauled out of the lakes. Are they protected where you are?
Here is what I pulled off the Michigan DNR website about it.

Sturgeon Angling Information

An all-species license is required to take and possess lake sturgeon. All anglers shall obtain a non-transferable Lake Sturgeon Fishing Tag prior to fishing for lake sturgeon (available at license vendors). Upon harvesting a lake sturgeon, anglers must validate their Lake Sturgeon Harvest Tag, attach it to the lake sturgeon, and register their harvest within 24 hours (except as noted below) at a designated registration site. For more information check online at www.michigan.gov/fishing. Lake sturgeon harvest is limited to one (1) per year per angler. Harvest of lake sturgeon is limited to the waters below as indicated. Lake sturgeon fishing season information can be found on page 8 (Table 2 Lake Sturgeon) of the Fishing Guide.

REPORT FROM SOUTH EAST crappie are slamming right now. just coming up from the deep and trying to eat everything before spawn water temps at the local watering holes here are high 40's, me and the pop's inlaw went out on sat and cought over 150 crappie, not fat enough to eat yet but hell when your catching them every cast who cares.. lmao.. will keep you updated on the smallmouth in the rivers and bass in the ponds.. i know i'm not a troll or a yuuper but i'm there in heart..lmao hope to be up there this summer catching some of you's guy's slob smallies.. i will post pics and not just a story oh and here are the crappie not all 150 but just one to seefish 005.jpg look at the color of the water, we had to use a bobber and a black grup and keep it in 4inches of water to keep it above the crappie because they feed in an upward direction ,so the bobber kept it in the zone.. just pull it a lil bit and the grub would come to the top and they will hit it on the drop everytime.. hope that helps some early dirty water fisherman/women

Finally got the boat out!4 feet of snow doesn't stop a yooper. Launched at Saxon harbor in Wisconsin, there was about 5 other rigs in the lot, and trolled really shallow for cohos. Didn't get any fish but it was awesome to be on the boat and have everything work. Friday will be the day, 67 and sunny. It's on like donkey kong. Water was still cold, warmest I found was 34.5 in a very small stretch of beach. Marked tons of fish

Fuckin great weekend! Got 7 coho Friday, 6 Saturday, and 4 today. We got them On stick baits. Jointed rapalas, reef runner lil rippers, and bomber long a's. We lost just as many as we landed and got a brown on Friday also. The lake was glass everyday. Water temp 37 but we found some 45 degree water and that's where they were.
