Soak them in some strong peroxide, 5% maybe until it has oxidized out and then bake @ 400f/200c for an hour. That is my method.
There wont be much organic material left behind.
Is this a cost thing? Hydroton is fairly cheap so if you go buying some stuff to clean it, you might as well have just went and bought some new Hydroton right?
Depending on how much you spent on the products to clean it and of course, your time.
