In a 3 by 3 tent, if you did nine plants (one plant per square foot), you could reach your goal and save yourself a lot of time. Grow them to about 10 inches tall then flip to flowering stage, as opposed to one plant you're going to be vegging for months.
But I have to veg a mother to get clones

You would only need to do that once and could keep the mother for more SoG grows if you're happy with her. Or you could flower the mother after the one SoG grow (then with no veg at all).

Also you would have to compare the following two scenarios:
  • Growing a plant from seed large enough to fill your tent (including the training and pruning that would require).
  • Growing the same plant large enough to give you ~12 good clones, plus at most 2 weeks to root said clones
Which one will take longer?

I don't have the space available to keep a mother plant, for any amount of time really. Otherwise, i would definitely go this route
