Hello Everyone,

This is my new grow journal for my 3rd grow of the RP OG #18. I'm a huge OG fan and I love this strain. The ladies are now in week 2 of bloom. Here is the gear I am using

1. Roots 707 soil
2. 3 gal Geopots
3. 3x3 flood tray
4. 1000w HPS
5. Entire line up of Soul Synthetics by Aurora Innovations

I was able to pull 18 oz from the last grow of the OG 18 with the 1000w light. I am hoping to surpass that yield with this grow. I will update as much as I can through harvest. Let me know what kind of questions you have for my grow and any advice is welcome. I've been growing a little over a year and still consider myself a novice.

P.S I have just received my order from The Cali Connection for the SFV OG Kush IBL and will be producing a grow journal on that as well in the future.

Quick update on my lighting options:

I originally used the 1000 watt adjust-a-wing light reflector (a non vented hood) for part of the veg time for my 9 plants. With the adjust a wing reflector i noticed that my plants would wilt slightly. At first i thought it was over watering or PH issues that caused my OG 18's to wilt and have less vigor. After weeks of experimenting, I realized that the wilting was due to my light distance. The light was too close and caused the leaves and stems to curl like a claw. I switched out my adjust-a-wing reflector with a 8 inch vented hood and immediately saw my plants recover. The leaves began to straighten the first day and after a week, the plant stems and leaves were spikey and straight. There you have it - I have decided that the OG #18 likes vented hoods if your trying to get the lights as close as possible.

Has anyone had the same experience?

Hello again Everyone,

Budman from Denver, CO here updating my 1000watt grow of the RP OG #18. The grow is currently at Week 4 Day 1. The ladies are really putting on some weight now. I estimate that the plants have stretched about 6-8 inches between weeks 1 and 3. The #18 is a mad stretcher. I have rotated some of the plants around to avoid leaf burn due to the close proximity of the lights to the canopy top. I have always pondered growing with a trellis and plan to do so with the next grow for this strain to mitigate height issues. I may switch to a 4x4 flood tray from a 3x3 if I switch to growing with a trellis. My light set up currently focuses on getting light penetration below the tightly packed canopy/grow surface area. Switching to the trellis growing, I would be focusing on getting more tops and getting more coverage over a wider growing area. This is all conjecture - I'll have a better idea when I give it a try. Lets get to the pictures now:

Week 4 Day 1

Temperature:
The temp in the room is a little colder than I would like it at 65 degrees. It gets cold in Colorado. I would prefer 72 degrees. This grow will will have another 1000w HPS in it soon hopefully. The combination of 2 1000 watts and a 6 inch duct pulling fresh cold air from the outside should balance the room temp to 70-75 degrees I am hoping. I have a heater (Vornado) thats comes on immediately after the lights shut off everyday. That has been keeping the room temp at about 66 -68 degrees when the lights are out.
IMG_0340 2.jpg

Veg room:
The 6 Cali Connections SFV OG Kush IBL seeds I received have all sprouted in their 2 gal Geo pots as illustrated in the pictures below. This is a great relief as these seeds weren't cheap. I have read on Rollitup that some feminized CC seeds have had cases of hermaphroditism. I cannot yet opine if this is true or not with the seeds I have received. I will definitely do my best to provide an objective opinion with the SFV seeds I have - more to come on this in future weeks. The 9 plants in the square pots are the OG#18s. These # 18 seedlings will be part of my attempt at a perpetual grow in a few weeks.

Soul Synthetics & Big Swell:

I want to say that I am please with Soul Synthetics throughout this grow. I will be producing a nute review on the entire line up of Soul Synthetics as part of the final conclusion of this OG #18 grow. For those that are interesting, you can pick up the entire line up (7 bottles quart sized total) for about $176. This is almost exactly the same amount it cost to run the Pure Blend Pro from Botanicare.

I want to talk about Big Swell. It is Soul's bloom booster, similar to Hydroplex from Botanicare. This stuff smells like some AAA grade maple syrup. The Big Swell is the most expensive of the Soul line up at $37.23 a quart (almost double the cost of Hydroplex). I cannot give a fair assessment of this product until I harvest. It smells really nice, but that price tag leaves me wondering what others think of it. Does anyone else out there use Big Swell? Also, has anyone compared results of different bloom boosters on the market and can opine on the effectiveness of these products? Any input appreciated.

I am at Week 5 Day 4 with my OG #18 grow. Sorry for the awful pictures. I forgot to put the camera on auto adjust. I've had some issues with room temperature. I have added a heater to mitigate the issues. Its getting really cold here in Colorado and my air intake is bringing the temperature significantly. This has caused some of my fan leaves to drop and curl in a bit. This is another testament to how mastering room conditions is imperative in his game. Without further ado:

Hello everyone,

We are here at week 6 day 7. I had to learn a lesson the hard way during week 5-6. My OG 18 plants were bushy as heck and i felt that the light was not penetrating enough to hit the lower bud sites. To mitigate my concerns, I began pruning some of the water/fan leaves from the plant tops. My pruning turned into me spending about 2-3 hours foolishly trimming off most of the fan leaves from all 9 of the plants. I felt possessed in some way. Once I started I couldn't stop. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I believe it was too extreme and probably stunted the yield for this grow. Lesson learned. I advocate selective pruning, but not to the point of detriment like i did.

Anyway, The buds themselves are doing ok. That OG Lemon smell is really coming out. I've noticed that the RP OG #18 has more of a lemon fuel smell than a piney smell. I plan on running these plants for atleast 9 weeks. Then drying for 5-10 days with a 2-3 week cure before I make them available to my patients.

Lets get to the pictures

IMG_0405.jpgIMG_0406.jpgIMG_0407.jpgIMG_0408.jpg

The images above are my CC SFV OG plants and my 9 vegging RP OG #18 plants in the veg box. Out of the 6 CC SFV OG plants grown from seed, I see one that maybe worthy of being a mother. The other ones seem to be less vigorous. This is maybe due grower error. I put the SFVs in the Earth Juice Amazon Bloom soil, instead of my usual Ocean Forest this time around. I really wish I had not. I think the amazon bloom had insects in it. I now see flying gnats in my veg box. Also, the Amazon bloom does not come with perlite. It has a bunch of high quality ingredients, but I recommend amending with 50% perlite because this shit does not have good aeration on its own.

The 9 vegging OG 18s are in CoCo. This is my first time growing in Coco. I've been wanting to try it for a while and made the jump with these 9. The coco I'm using is called 'Peak Coir' by Elevations Organics from Commerce City Colorado - http://elevationorganics.com/. We'll see how it comes out. I transplanted about 1 week ago. Its 100% coco - no perlite or other amendments. My general feeling at this point is that the plants are growing quicker and in soil. I'm still using the entire line of Soul Synthetics with these 9 plants grow in Coco. One thing about the OG 18 that I don't particularly like is how crazy it stretches. As you can see in the picture I've had to engage in plant training. I've topped it and done some LST on the lighter side branches. I feel that with my growing situation I have to be vigilant in controlling the high of the plants and bushing them out as much as possible to reach their potential.

IMG_0409.jpgIMG_0410.jpgIMG_0404.jpg

I've made a designated drying room for my harvest recently. The room is usually about 55-65 degrees. I have a activeair 6 inch fan and a phresh filter in there. The filter is really needed for OG.

I've also added another 1000 watt light to my grow room. See Panaramic picture above to see the new set up. I ordered the Lumatek 1000 watt aircooled ballast and it should be coming in mid January. When it comes in I will be able to operate a perpetual grow 2000 watt grow room - harvesting every 5 weeks. (Hopefully)

Blooming Plants:
IMG_0399.jpgIMG_0400.jpgIMG_0402.jpgIMG_0411.jpgIMG_0412.jpgIMG_0413.jpgIMG_0414.jpgIMG_0415.jpgIMG_0417.jpgIMG_0418.jpgIMG_0419.jpg

Above are the ladies at 6 weeks at 7 days. This is measuring from actual flipping to 12/12. I know some people don't count the first week of bloom because the plant is getting still getting acclimated, but I do.

I plan on feeding 1 last time during week 7 before engaging in flushing procedures. I plan to flush the 9 plants with 32 gallons of water, which equates to about 3-4 gallons per plant. The 32 gallons will be with RO water Ph'd to 6.2. The 32 gallons will also be treated with Botannicare's Clearex. I plant to do another 32 gallon flush with just pure RO water at the beginning of week 9, right before harvesting. Some may think this is overkill, but the way i see it, its better to overflush than underflush. I invite any input or thoughts about flushing - or anything else for that matter. I'm sure I'm fucking something up.

Thanks for reading everyone. I will try to update again soon. I'm on RIU daily, so please let me know if you have any questions about my grow.

Hello MaineWeed,

I would have to agree with your statement about the leaf to calyx ratio. I would attribute this to me over pruning the leaves mid way through week 5. I believe my over pruning stunted the bud growth dramatically. Next time, I will wait until week 7 to prune to allow light to hit the bottom budsites. Thank you for your kind words.

The smoke effect is very euphoric with very little to no paranoia. My usual problem when I smoke weed is paranoia, but with the OG 18, I feel very relaxed. I'm a CPA and I sit at a desk for about 10-12 hours a day during busy season and it eases the spasms in my back very well when I get home. I find my self smoking more than I need because it taste so damn good. When I smoke too much, I begin to start feeling heavy and unable to move. Hope that offers some insight.

Thanks again!

Cool thread man I'm doing almost the same space as you so I'll like to watch and learn a thing or two I have a tent that is 2 feet 8 inch by 2 feet 8 inches (kinda weird huh) its about 5 and a half feet tall I couldn't really get the air cooled hood this round so I got the adjust awing thing found a 400 watter for 60 bucks so couldn't really pass it up mabey next run I'll upgrade.
Also I was going to ask how do u like the 707 compared to the regular roots organic that's what I usually use
and was almost going to try the 707 but just decided to stick with what's been working best for me

Is og kush the greatest thing ever invented?
Hello Mongo Frog,

I have to admit I am very partial to this strain. I've been smoking it ever since I was a 15 year old teenager growing up in Southern California. I've smoke alot of other different strains since living here in Colorado, but the OG is the only strain I get nostalgic over. I would have to say its the greatest thing to me lol. I also have to admit, everyone and their mothers are growing this strain and it is quickly becoming over played. But there is a reason for that.

Thanks for checking out my grow

nice thread you got going. very well documented and a lot of healthy looking plants, great job.
Fresh2De@th,

Thank you for the kind words. My goal is to create as much informative value as I can through my grow journal. Lol, I document for a living. I sure wish my boss would say you what did.

Thanks again,

Hello doubletake,

That set up doesn't sound bad at all. I would definitely put a fan in your tent. Thats a damn good deal for 60 bucks. I've been tweaking my grow space for about a year. With each new grow I change something for the better. They usually aren't dramatic changes, but they are effective.

As for the 707 soil, I like it very much. I get the 707 because its what they had at the grow store. I believe I read someone saying that the Roots Organic soil is loaded with more perlite as compared to the 707. I cannot 100% confirm this at this time. I do amend my 707 with about 40% perlite to keep it super aerated. I also amended the 707 with dolomite lime to autocorrect the Ph in the soil. I strongly recommend the dolomite. I've switched to Coco Coir for my next 9 plants and so far it looks promising. I will definitely keep updates on the coco grow.

Thanks for checking out my grow double take and let me know if you have any other questions

I too am in love with og kush. Love the look, the smell, and the high is outrageous. Does any one smoke it in the morning with a nice cup of coffee? What a way to start your day. Just awesome!!!
