Really Worried!!!

Hi guys,

I'm having a bit of trouble with my leaves. I use a 200w red cfl in a Supercloset stealth grow box. I just added the nutes yesterday for there first feed.

I'm a complete noob and this is my first grow. I studied best i could before deciding to grow. I have looked through many post's, which were helpful but i still don't know exactly whats wrong. The leaves already had a bit of yellow on there edges before the feed. I check ph daily too and it seems to be fine, between 5.5 and 6. I am worried that it might be heat burn?

I am sorry if i have posted this in the wrong section or if this is an obvious problem that i maybe should of solved myself but again i am so new to this. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Yo welcome to RIU !
It looks like a little nutrient burn. Need to be really gentle with nutrients on young plants.

Diagnosis would be easier if you give us the whole rundown on your grow setup.
Thankyou my friend.

I am using a hydro set up. It is the Supercloset stealth grow box. The following is the set-up that i got with this system.

200 Watt Feliz Grow Lamp (Red)

8 Plant SuperPonics System

Technaflora Recipe for Success Nutrient Kit

Industrial Grade Carbon Filter

General Hydroponics pH Control Kit

Eco Air 2 Air Pump

132 Gallon Per Hour Water Pump

Adjustable Internal Circulation Fan

TDS Meter

I am growing autoflowering Royal Dwarf from Royal Queen Seeds.

I germinated 3 seeds in the box using rockwool. I let them grow for about 12 days to allow a root system changing the resevoir weekly and they looked ok. Checking th PH daily ( keeping it between 5.5 and 6.1). Then on saturday (12 days after sprouting) i noticed a little yellow on the tips of the leaves. I presumed they were hungry so changed resevoir and proceeded with first feed.

B.c boost- 15ml
B.c grow- 7.5ml
Thrive Alive b-1 red- 2.5ml
Magical-2.5ml
Sugardaddy-10ml

I mixed the above into about 2 gallons of water (8.5 litres give or take). They recommend the above nutes for every 1 gallon of water. I didnt want to overfeed so just gave them a half dose ( 2 gallons of water used but i just put solution for 1 gallon). I had them on a heavy 24-0 light cycle and have reduced this to 20-4 on the first day of feeding but i might have messed this light schedule up because of the cheap ass timers i had but maybe this was just messed up for 1 day...i cant be sure. Now i manually turn the lights off and on at a 20-4 light schedule.Hope this is making sense!

Again, i really appreciate you taking the time to reply. I think i might be a little out of my depth here!!!

I think you are very brave to go hydro as a novice grower. I wanted to go hydro when I started but my equipment supplier advised against it saying "there's too much can go wrong with hydro." So I've been using soil ever since.

Sadly this means that i cannot help you a great deal.. however that said, it does seem like you are already doing a lot of things right, or quite close to it. Definitely right to go with 1/2 or less dosage when starting feeding.

You need to tell us about your humidity and temperatures, 2 important factors you left out.

The "umbrella" stature of your plant suggests overwatering and the pale color suggests lack of nutrients but I feel anything I say from this point on is speculation since I have no experience with hydro.

But don't worry! There are very many pro hydro growers use this site and with a bit of luck they will chime in soon and tell you what's going on.

You might even want to consider switching to soil until you have a few grows under your belt. I think you could still safely do that at this point. And keep on reading as much as you can. I have been led to believe that hydro is not so forgiving when you make mistakes so you need to act quickly to fix issues.

Good luck buddy keep us posted!

Thanks again man. Hopefully i might get lucky with some hydro master8-). But i think you might be right about the overheating as it doesnt get much fresh air because it is a closed system.

I live in a apartment with my wife. She has no problem with me growing just so long as it was neat and that no one would know if they ever came to visit. This left me with few options so i decided to go hydro after seeing the supercloset superbox. Thought it was ideal for space and air tight too so what i needed to contain the smell. Although it is nowhere near as closed as i thought it would be. I can see problems arise in a few weeks, if i do manage to get some bud!

Indeed my heat and humidity!

It is between 22c to 24c (think thats about 70-75f). Humidity isnt great but its between 45-50. Think it should be a little higher like 50-55 but i have no real control because the system is so closed and tight.

I think i definitely should of just waited until i got my own place and started with soil and gradually got to know the plants and understand growth etc before hydro but as i said above, options were limited.

I'm going to make this work man.bongsmiliebongsmilie:joint::smile:(i cant delete the emoticons? Ha).

When the leaves bend down like yours, it usually means over-watering.So, it looks like multiple issues going on.

planning on leaving the wife are you?

just kidding lol :)

It's never too early to start growing and gathering experience! Even if this fails you will have learnt something from it but I totally approve of your determined attitude. Let's hope it works out!

I was definitely worried i did overwater. I will not water the rockwool again until much later on in the cycle. I hope they survive if i did overwater!

Should i cut the edge off the dead leaf ?

I left my watering schedule out of my above post. Sorry guys. Real amatuer with details.

I watered them on a schedule of once every 2 days( week 1) and then once everyday (week 2). I think my air pump was on too high and maybe this is why they have been getting overwatered as the air stones would wet the rockwool inside the dwc from underneath.

Interesting! Thankyou for that insight dude.
