oh yeah but it takes just as much effort making them any food not from a bag lol preparing animal food is a handful!
I have parrots, large parrots. They get three hots and a cot here. I do mean hot. I cook breakfast, lunch AND dinner for PARROTS! They eat better than we do, damn birds ;) But yes it's a LOT of work to take care of pet's well.

I knew someone once, old-school hippie, who had two Rough Collies whom she fed a vegan diet. It took a lot of work to prep their food and find good ingredients, but they were happy healthy animals. Cats otoh ... cn
If they can survive on sawdust and horse broth for 8 years, it would make sense that they can benefit from vegan. More nutrients for sure. I wonder what she got her highest protein and fat source from. Probably avacados, something i forgot to mention that mine occasionally gets from time to time. They do wonders on her coat with all the omegas and essential fatty acids

I'd ask her if I still could ... cn

your missing all the fruits veggies, carbs, why not feed the dog a good dog food ? like blue buffalo. also straight meat will shorten the dogs life ,very unhealthy. and it is proven to put a strain on the kidneys and liver, straight meat, unless your a diet nutrient expert why try to mess with an animals diet ? If I was your nutrient doctor I would put you on a straight bacon diet yummy bet you would love it ! but in 6 months lets get your blood checked, same as a dog , living breathing thing ,

no ima vegan big difference vegetarians are half assing it :p hahahhaha
I thought you were but didn't want to make any extreme accusations lol I envy you for that. I have been trying to convert myself to a plant biased diet for a few years now, back when i learned about how bad the western diet really is. Slowly but surely i have omitted most animal products from my food (to the best of my ability and knowledge) I still wear leather work boots though lol

uhm i hate to break it to you but just about every slaughter house is like that including the ones you eat from...and organic half the time is a load of bullshit marketing plan for peopleto get suckered into its "organic earth loving ways" which arent organic at all
Not the one I eat from. I am good friends w/the guy who raises my beef I can go pet my steer, feed him, escort him to the butcher if I like. I can go in and check the side of beef while it's hanging.

No chemicals or crazy drugs going into my beef. A minimum amount of corn and oats a day and mostly pasture grass and hay.

In fact I just got my brownie badge the other day in feeding baby calves. He just got six, week old calves that need bottle fed two times a day. I happened to stop over to burn one w/him when he was gettin ready to feed em.

Pretty cool.

she gets more than straight meat but about 75-80% will be raw meat. I mentioned that i give her avocados, lightly steamed broccoli, and long grain brown rice. She also eats cucumbers, grapefruit seeds, and various forms of garlic to keep her digestive tract healthy. Sometimes i try to get her to eat baby spinach but she just looks at me like i'm crazy lol

you still missing a lot of stuff , add some potatoes very important, corn , lots of though tyou need to put in it. mabe get the dog some vitamins if you insist on feeding it like that. dogs live longer if you feed them correct, this pore dog is going to have health problems in less then 3 years, pore dog, only time I can see feeding those special diets is if your going to fight the dog , or race the dog then you feed it plain butter, . for you animal lovers you know feeding a cat tuna, hurts it liver, figure that out . any ways best of luck

Also diesel, arent you being hypocritical, saying to feed a "good dog food" and then asking me why i am trying to mess with a dogs diet? I may be wrong but did dogs prepare themselves kibble dog food 300 years ago? I am simply trying to feed my dog what her digestive system was designed to process.

And btw i dont eat swine and neither does my dog

Thank you for your input. I have only had her for a month now and she was on a puppy chow diet, so i would say that this is beneficial compared to the "normal" pet diet. She will be eating various veggies throughout her life but it will be 75% meat. This is why i started this thread, to gain information and to help others make the right decisions for their pets

for the record, my dog (she lives with my mom but she's still my damn dog. got her when i was 14) has been feed purina dog chow for over 16 years now and is as healthy as possible for her age. she's a bit arthritic and blind in one eye, but she still hops around, smiles, perks her ears, wags her tail, and snuggles. our other dog died when he was 16 and was fed the same stuff and he only died because of a suspected blood clot. both dogs also get their share of table scraps, but not much fatty greasy stuff (no fried skins, buttery shit, etc.) rosie, the living dog, gets fed less dog food now that she's old and less active but she still likes to crunch on raw veggie scraps from meal preparation and pre-rinse plates/pans before they go into the sink, and her appetite has not waned. she has all her teeth and they're only slightly off-white. these dogs also rarely went to the vet (rosie has to go regularly now to drain a cyst that she has. she's too old for anesthesia to have it surgically removed). both lab mixes, not little dogs, and they were never fat despite both being fixed.

i'm not saying that higher quality dog food isn't "better", i'm saying that underestimating the nutritional value of common brands is a mistake. purina + table scraps = 16 year old dog who still loves to eat and smiles and wags her tail a lot. if she wants a piece of meatloaf, a couple of french fries, or a piece of pizza crust, she gets it. moderation is key. did anyone ever stop to wonder if dogs who get the same bland shit all the time lose their zest for life the way humans do? who the fuck wants to eat the same bowl of tri-colored kibbles for 16 years and NOTHING else? sounds like hell.

So you're telling me that my dog is going to live to be over 16 lol?! Seems legit. Just a heads up though, raw fat from meat is still fat, but cooked fat from meat is grease, and grease is bad for dogs. Thank you for your information

Should dogs be eating vegetables, I mean, does it benefit them in any way like it does with humans? Most wild dogs don't eat vegetables at all and as far as I know are pretty much strictly carnivores.

As for raw meat, I was wondering if there is any heightened risk for something like salmonella with animals? I feed my dog cooked meat if there's extra left over sometimes, he loves the shit and it's gone within seconds, but couldn't raw meat have parasites in it that would be harmful?

I dunno, my dog likes fruit. I have several apple trees and I've seen him standing on his hind legs picking apples off the tree. He'll sit down and eat it right up.

I shit you not.

For some reason he won't eat them off the ground though
