rastafari isnt really a religion..its more of a way of life and a belief system...it has no official bible or doctorine..there are no rules..or regulations...it is named so after Halie Selassie who was emperor of eithiopia from around 1920 or so until the late 1970s..he was born Ras tafari makonnen..some rastas believe him to be god or jehovah..hence the saying "jah rastafari" this is believed so due to many spiritual and biblical propheceys..he comes from the lineage of king solomin and the queen of sheba...in the begining rasta was a pro africa anti european group that followed the teachings of marcus garvey who told of biblical prophecys that a king will come to power in eithiopia known as the king of kings lord of lords the conquering lion of juda..ras tafari fullfiled that prophecy..but instead of teaching of black supremacy he taught that all men and women are from the same lineage..that we as humanity are all equal...he also taught that religion is division..a division of people and of class also that we should have faith and practice spiritualism and that no man should be judged by his spiritual belief...today there are over 3 million rastas worldwide and all practice their faith in many different ways..rasta is about pure love for life and humanity, respect and humility towards each other giving thanks and praise toward jah ( whom ever you believe that to be)..to live life simple and away from babylon influence and control..to live your life with true liberty and freedom as a man whos no better or no worse than another man......this is my understanding of rastafari...like i said there is no strict doctorine or bible to guide...its just a way of life and love for me....

I will try my best to answer any other questions you might have...like i said..many rasta have different belief to rasta...but the underlying theme is equality and love through humanity:joint:

the only problem with reaserching on the internet is that you get info from all the different rasta groups and they are all different....as far as general media rastas are a bunch of dreadlocked murderous ganja smugglers....I have no dreads im clean shaven and I dont smuggle ganja....I am well respected in my community and in my trade in which I own my own bussiness...rasta is how you live not how you worship or look....

also to get a better idea of rasta philosophy google Halie Sellassie and read about some of the things he did and his teachings....Sellassie I doesnt get the historical recognition that other world leaders that have done far less for their people and humanity do...the powers that be dont want people to start thinking with liberty and true freedom from oppression that babylon impose...

For I, rasta has always been based on the idea that Man can only understand the world by directly communing with God, using the Tree of Life as a holy sacrament.

Rasta today are the living prophets.
Jeremiah, Isaiah, John the Baptist, Jesus, and Samson and others
did likewise. All observed the vow of the Nazarite from the Book of Leviticus:
To not cut one's hair as a promise of dedication to God and Truth.

because technology is a western thing, like EVERYONE having a cell phone or EVERYONE having internet.

you are right, totally opinion, i have nothing else to go on, i just cant seem to see why someone who devotes their whole life to god would find time to jump on RIU and post pictures of the herb that theyre growing...
it all just seems to boastful for me, every seemingly rasta person i have met was humble, quiet and reserved, but id like to hear from some practicing nattys
