RainForest 36/Aeroponic System

I am new to growing weed and wanted to give it a try. I am going to start off with growing some regs for a first time and then moving onto something better. The system that I am going to use is called Rain Forest 36.

Here is a link. Discount Hydroponics - RainForest 36

I am posting to ask what people think about this system and will it meet my needs? I am thinking about growing 6 plants in it maybe 10.

Any input would be nice.

Right now I have 10x seends in Germinating. I soaked them in a shot class of water for about 2 days. I have now placed the seeds in a wet paper towel. The seeds have been in the paper towel for about 3 days now. The seeds are all cracked open with the root starting to grow. The roots on them are almost half an inch long. I am waiting for my Rain Forest 36 to arrive at my house. It should be here Monday or Tuesday. What I was thinking about doing is buying a medium and placing the seed in them so they can start growing till I get my system. "I don't want to use dirt so I was thinking about buying something that I can just place in the Rain Forest 36, that way the plant wont have shock?

Like I said I am new so any real input would be nice. I am also going to start a growing journal to show people my progress and to also get more input.

Thanks.

Thanks I will take a look at what you got and ask you for tips if you don't mind. So over all what do you think of the system?

i like it. i would put a drain on it and it is a little tight for all six plants but the system works great.

Why should I put a drain on it? What will that do other then drain the water out.?
once you start siphoning the water out (and pumping or dumping fresh water/nutrients back in) every time you change your reservoir, you too will curse GH for not putting a drain on the bottom of the thing.

What would happen if I leave my lights on all the time? Thats what I have been doing for the past 5 days.
i'm not sure i understand the question... are you asking if a 24/0 light cycle is OK for vegetative or grow stage then my answer is yes - i've never had any problem with any of the standard light cycles for growth (24/0, 20/4, 18/6)

How much water should I be giving my plants? Right now I have had my pump on for 5 days straight and the light on all the time. I will be posting pictures very soon of my set up. I am just using the rocks that came with the system.

i just follow the directions - the pump is on while the lights are on. when i switch to 12/12 - the pump is on when the lights are on and then on for about an hour during the middle of the dark period.

i also add an airstone or two to the reservoir to keep the water oxygenated.

When should I switch from having the lights on 24/7 to 19/5?
never. your choices during vegetative are: 24/0, 20/4 or 18/6
when you switch to flowering you switch to 12/12

you can do that anytime - but the bigger you let them grow before flowering the larger the yield BUT they double or even triple in size after switching to 12/12 so you may be limited by vertical space and have to start flowering early.

another words, it is up to you when to switch to 12/12.

Here is an update of my plants with some pics.

What do you think? I will post a new pic in like 3 days. Also I killed off two of the plants and planted two new ones. When should I switch from 24/0 light. I have the light and a fan on all day and night long.

Looks clean the plants look healthy and green but you should move your lights closer and get more CFLs! also a fan blowing on the stems - the stems are stretching. Stretching is very, very bad (the stems won't be able to support heavy buds).

i change mine at least once a week but it really depends on how much they're drinking and how much the pH and PPM are changing. when the pH starts dropping i change my water.

you'll need a light timer when you switch to 12/12.

I'm not sure what your last question (Also I killed off two of my pants to start over will they grow out fine?) is asking.

I pulled two plants out and am about to plant two more. As long as I have lights on them they will grow. But will my other plants get in the way? My plants now are about 20 days old. I will add some new pics this Friday to give you an update. The pics that i just posted are from the 12th of this month i think.

Everyone told me not to buy one of these systems that they were only good for cloneing and that was about it. But I went ahead and bought it anyway and honestly it was o k, till it reached the ending stages. At first it was perfect, the speed of the growth was amazing, however towards the end, all my plants died off except for one (but its looking good). when the plants got bigger changing the water and nutes was a beetach . Then in the middle of the growth I started to notice brown roots / root rot. I'm not sure if it was because the system let to much light in (I had to paint it black) or to much mositure, or because the roots grew together, maybe I just let them grow to much in the VEG stage. Whatever it was all 5 my plants died and now I'm only with one but its ok this was my first water hydro/aero grow and I loved it and I don't think I will be switching back to soil ever but this won't be my choice next time. I got 2 week till harvest on this one plant left and I'll let you know how it turns out and post some pics when I get a chance.
