Question: The Fading of the Clones

Can anyone offer insight or advice on using clones to propagate successive generations? Specifically, will the quality fade through generations?

  • The purpose: maximize space in a small-scale home growroom. By propagating the next generation with a clone, the previous mother plant can be flowered into two big colas after topping for the clone. I'm currently using SOG.
  • In lieu of empirical observation: all opinions, references, or links are appreciated!

War stories about 3rd generation and greater clones - basically, we're talking about using clones to clone clones.

What I've not seen addressed is genetic drift specific to cannabis - here's an article where the author states:

"
I have read up on genetic shift [sic] and I simply believe it does not apply when taking cuttings from healthy plants."

For an advanced explanation, Wikipedia says this.

In my earlier days of growing I took clones from clones and never saw any change in quality of my plants, never kept a mother. Always had a good harvest and good smoking material.

I don't have the space to keep a mother plant but am on my 6th generation of clones.
I havnt seen any difference or drift.
Before repotting and putting them in the flower room I take clones. Let the clones grow until the plants in the flower room are ready and repeat the process.
Harvest every 8-9 weeks.

Nutes, that's exactly what I want to do - many thanks. Do you get double colas on the mother plant?
