Question Of The Day!

Hello All,

First off I am not really a newbie per say. I have been growing with dirt for about a year and half. I am currently thinking about switching mediums. I would like everyones opion and advice on what I should switch to.....

This is my set up...

2 - 1000W HPS Ballast w Cool Tubes
1 - 8 Inch Exhaust Inline
2 - 6 Inch for Cooling and Intake
10ft x 10ft Room

I don't want to have to veg. I have been just tossing well rooted clones right into flower. I do not want to have to veg....

With that in mind what do you all feel is the best way to go? Should I just stick with dirt or is there a better more efficent way to go?

+rep for everyone that replies with decent advice of course! ;)

Thanks in advance!
C

Hydro is much more efficient because you can grow the plants about 30% faster in veg, but if you don't veg then its not really an advantage to you. A super simple DWC system is very cheap to setup and you could just add it into your existing grow along side and see how it does.

Ok cool... Next question is how many plants should I toss under my 1000W if I decide to go dwc, keeping in mind I don't veg....

Also what do you think about going with a 4x4 table? Is it much more difficult than soil? It took me a good couple grows just to get "OK" at gowing in dirt.... I am thinking now that I know what to look for switching to a different medium shouldn't be that big of a deal....

Thoughts anyone?

Since you don't veg your going to want to maximise your plants. If you veg you could just do a single plant and pull 2 pounds off her if you LST a bit. But since you don't then you need to do a Sea Of green style grow, lots of little plants, as many as will fit in a 4 foot by 4 foot area.

IMO Hydro is a lot cleaner and easier than soil, less chance of bugs or mildew. The only thing about hydro is you have to be very careful with the PH, you can't let it drift too much from nominal or you can have problems, the kind of problems that can destroy your crop in a day. Also the water pumps and air pumps need to be checked and tested for function every day. You need more money up front to do hydro but the first bigger yield will pay for itself. If your a pot snob you may prefer the better taste of soil grown.

I have done the method you decribe and i place 120 cuttings under a 1000watt hps. Used foam icechests for pots as i could use all the space under the light. I think using soil is by far easier and productive for this method. Sunshine #4 is my preference. One 3.8 cubic foot bale should do one light worth 5'x5'. I yielded 1.3 pounds per light. I now grow 9 plants in 7 gallon pots and veg 2-3 weeks and get the same or more yield with much less work. Good luck and good growing!
