Question, how is a "control bucket" used? I really want to have this setup

the ones in ur pics that u have under the lights. What kind of buckets are they in? Insulated? and do you just have like "tote" lids for the "lids" ? If I, being basically a newbie, am looking at those, do they not resemble a DWC bucket?

Ok dont answer the dumb question two posts ago lol I looked for about three seconds and figured it out lol.

and this is a system per stage yes? veg and flower. Im excited! :) What ballpark figure you say it take to get all this stuff. Seeing as I have NONE of it. lol

I don't know dude, does your computer have google? I'm willing to help and all but jesus...

You don;t need to insulate the buckets if you have a chiller, like a proper DWC grower does. anything that holds water is a DWC container. Hell woodsman grows his monsters in garbage cans.

How much do I have invested in my system? All said and done, about $18,000

I have no idea what yours would cost, how big is your room? How many lights you running? It costs about 2k to properly set up a room with 3 600 in it. when I say proper I am including co2 and an AC.

:eyesmoke: haha, ur right, sorry for the barrage of questions. Get all baked and questions fly, and I was able to find out most of what I was asking with the good ol Google last night :) So apologeeeez

Bud room is a 9x7x9-10. Veg is gonna be a 5x5 tent. Built a sweet lil clone machine. So I'll want to make two systems, especially before I get too deep into buying stuff specifically for DWC. We've got 4 going in DWC buckets now, but your right, the thought of SO MANY airstones so many air lines, just with the 4 it seems like a mess.. I think we'll finish them off in those DWC's I guess. I'll dig up a pic of them last night.... Roots are finally starting to take off. Phone pic, :(

This is a question I tried finding out before I was gonna pass out last night.. WIll be hard to type/explaine maybe tho. Do you want you bucket setup simetrical? so that your hoses are all the same length to each "opposite bucket" Example say there are 4 buckets, from the control bucket to the two buckets furthest away do those have to be the same length? then the two closest also same length hoses, and so forth for larger setups.. Or does that not matter and they will just fill all the buckets where ever they are just as long as they are on the same level ground as the control bucket? I hope that makes sense lol

If you think about that question, you can answer it for yourself.
hint.. your buckets could be 1000' from each other...

Ha! alright, so I was basically over thinking it, as I do many things lol :) Cool!

In your exp, in say my 7x9 bud room how many buckets would you try to put in there? I want to do as many as possible, but I also want them to have room to grow and stretch. Also I have a 1000w Dual arc (600wHPS & 400wMH in one; you ever use?) that im using in there. You think thats good or I have pondered doing two 600's?

DWC is great but can be a colossal pain in the ass!! It can result in higher growth rates and SLIGHTLY higher yields but it can also end badly due to root rot or nute problems.

I run 18 plants under 14 600's. I have had stellar runs and shitty ones. I finally said, you know what, fuck it, going back to ebb and flow.

No chiller, no huge air pumps, no scrubbing 36 air stones, none of that bullshit.
200 gallon Rez, one air stone, and 18 individual buckets. Done.

My buckets are linked together with 3/4" line to the control bucket. Inside those buckets I have another bucket with holes drilled in the bottom. 60% perlite 30% coco and 10% old hydroton and earth worm castings.

Less fuss, substrate is light an easy to manage and gives beneficial bacteria somewhere to live.

Using Perlite, coco, hydroton and the worm castings: doesnt that get your solutions all nasty or no? from the coco and castings.. ?

It's not about how many plants, it's about how long you veg them for

A 600 and a good hood casts good light on a 3x3 maybe a 4x4. A thousand goes from 4x4 to 5x5

So in a 7 x 9 I would do two rows of two 600. 4 plants in each row or eight in each row if your only going to veg a little bit.

Ewc and coco don't bother the solution

Ok cool. I've seen in your threads you saying you were vegging for 6 weeks, is that your "normal" veg time you like to do? When do you like to top yours? or do you?..
Use the tops as clones?

sorry for wastin your time.. I'm sure plenty of ppl ask you the same shit.. ill look it up... I see now, im just a never ending question lol Thank you tho, for all the good stuff you have givin me i'm already using most of it now... so thank yiou breh

Yeah about 6 weeks is normal. But that ends up being a 3.5 x 3.5' plant under a scrog screen.

I'm a medical grower so I have to grow them big. I top when there is about 7-8 nodes. Then I train and tie back so that there are four main branches, I cut off all the lower stuff. It's complicated, but the info is out there.

I use Dutch master nutes. Earth worm castings tea, foliar sprays with kelp extract, liquid karma, and this magic stuff that is actually pretty fucking incredible. It makes the buds swell like a mother and get very dense, it's called liquid gold by flower products. It's actually just a humic acid extract butan it works really well.

That is kind of higher level shit though. Just focus of healthy growth and always rember that those lower branches on your plant, the ones you think are going to produce lots of little buds....the just produce shitty ass popcorn buds. Get rid of them!!

Sweet! Thank you for all this

DO you use RO water in these systems? I have well water. Comes out 245ppm and 8.2-8.4 ph

245 not so bad. Salt filtration though is a no no. I would send it out to an ag extension office and get it tested to se what is in there.

My two water is 22ppm :)

So when the pump kicks on in the res to the control bucket, does that bucket like fill up then get pumped into your buckets, how does it not overflow? and how does it know when to stop filling the buckets and when to empty them?
A float valve like in a toilet.

I was doing a setup with a 30 gallon coleman cooler for the res for temps... didn't have/need a control bucket... just put the water pump in the cooler. I dunno your temps but you could probably throw 2 one gallon jugs of ice in there once every two days in one of those coolers and be fine.

For koolaid, I like dyna-gro Grow/Bloom, Pro-Tekt, and Aquashield. I hit them with hydroplex, then koolbloom dry in flower.

My tap water is 110ppm and aroun 8 ph.

Pretty much $60 after tax at Walmart. Insulated, light proof, easy to drill holes.

Ordered the Ebb Brain! Thanks Legally! bongsmilie

So there no real way to introduce new plants into the bud room unless you had two flower res' going right? Or hopefully im wrong lol

Just trying to think how to get a harvest in less than 8 - 10 week gaps.. ???

Whats ur process to keep it flowing?

It sounds more like you have to just flower your batch you have going and once those are done and out you can fill it back up with your vegged plants. Because of nute strength differences.

Yup. I'm not a fan of perpetual harvests. Some are, I however to just flower everything and then when they are done, I repeat the process

I need 8 weeks to forget how much harest sucks.

lol, funny. I hear ya. I've got one soil grow under me and that was 4 wonder womans and 2 og kush, came out to about 11oz and it took all damn day lol. I can only imagine with the size plants you got going, how long that takes.

I do have the stuff coming together here and I'm going to make a 9 bucket veg and flower room. Just doing veg first, since going broke right now, :( once im a lil closer to needing it for flower ill get that one made up quick.

Would you suggest using 5 gal buckets or 3.5? I was thinking 5, why not? If 5's for base & planters, does my control bucket need to be larger than a 5 gal? Since the planters are stacked on the base and a lil higher than just one 5.

Does that brain come with instruction on where to drill my holes in the control bucket or is that something I need to research? Or have you tell me! lol :)

You can use the same bucket for the control as you don't need to flood to the top of the bucket.

Couple points on the control bucket. You want the 1st and 2nd upper floats to straddle the elevation where you want the flood to end. Your buckets should flood to about half or 2/3. No higher than that.

Put the bottom two floats pretty close together and the lowest one should be as close to the bottom of the bucket as possible and still be able to move. !

Ok cool. Well ill be making one of two systems here in the next week i think so cool. I will keep ya posted! And I may ask a question or two :) THANKYOU!!
