Question about power of CFLs

So, Im done vegging and need to get some cfls to flower soon. I am going to make my own fixture and am bulb shopping right now.

I see here:

2 to 200 Watt CFL

that almost every wattage of cfl is offered in the different color spectrums of light. I know that a 6500k and 5000k light are good. I was planning on getting two 6500k and one 5000k.

My question is, what wattage should I go for? Obviously lower wattage is less money spent on electricity; however, I don't want to get too weak for the plants. Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks!

First if you are going to be getting a very high wattage bulb, make sure your light fixture can handle it! I know a lot of light fixtures max at around 150W. In flowering you want to aim more towards the 2000-3500 kelvin bulbs. Although 5000-6000 would ultimately work, the other ones are recommended for flowering.

If your light fixture can handle any high wattage bulbs, then get the highest one that you can afford! Marijuana plants can handle a shit load of light as long as heat isn't a factor. NOW if you had a choice between a

150 Watt 3000K light bulb and a
200 Watt 5000K light bulb,

you would want to go with the 200 watt bulb as they will have much more lumens then the 150 watt (supposing they are general CFLs). If the lumen output is a significant increase, but the wrong spectrum then go with the higher lumen output. That will make up for the wrong spectrum. Also check out this link for more information on lighting. cannabis Lighting in the grow room

Anyways, hoped this helped you out a little bit. Good luck with flowering!

Thanks for your advice. I'm not sure what I'm going to go with right now. I'm tight on cash (fcuking speeding ticket), so I'm going to do some looking around at lowes and other places before buying anything.

I personally love Home Depot as they always have packaged deals on CFLs. Here is an example of one of the bulbs they have there. SearchResults

They also have 150W equivalents and the bulbs that you showed as well. I just use a lot of 100W and 150W equivalents for my CFL grow. Seems to do the trick all the way through!

You think 2 100 watt equivalent (23w CFL) is good enough for like 4 plants?

I just want some kind of notion as to what wattage I should go for.

Haha, my plants will never look that good...nice setup.

I think i'm just going to go with 4 30-40 watt cfls for the really 3-4 plants I have.

^^^^ I should confess I vegged for a long time so you don't need this much lighting if you flower much earlier. You can start 4 under 2 cfls but to veg and flower you will need at least a couple hundred real watts of CFLs.
