Question about double harvest (newb)

Also my main buds are all pretty fat and long and I am not sure where I would cut them for a double harvest. The tops are getting really close to done but the very bottoms need some time. Would you just cut the whole big chunk off for the large buds or find a spot in the middle where the trichs are more clear to split it?
