QUESTION ABOUT 1ST DRYING PROCESS?!

Hey guys I have a question... I’m on my first harvest.... 3 plants which I chopped down 3 days ago... I wanted to do a slow dry to avoid any hay smell and make sure all compounds are properly broken down... so I planned on 60F/60RH for 10-14 days.... I have them hanging in my bathroom with a mini fan blowing under the buds I don’t feel air blowing on my hand when I place it near any hanging buds but I do feel SOME airflow and the mini fan was on high... humidity has been 52-60... temps have been 63-66... and The weather here in Cali right now is cool and rainy for like 2 weeks so it’s perfect to just dry a few plants without having to run the humidifier BUT today I went to just check again as I always do a few times a day... and I noticed, the very tips of my nugs already seem a little dry/crispy... they’re not like DRY cuz I squeezed one and it’s still squishy and sticky but ALL the tips of the buds feel way dryer then the rest... no stems snap yet and working back up from the ends of the colas they feel really moist still! I left most fan leaves on for slower drying here in dry so cal.. and at first I think I was squeezing some of the super dry fan leaves and sugar leaves which are already pretty dry and shriveled. So at this point I have turned off my bathroom exhaust and fan and have the humidifier going to get up to 60%.... just wondering is this normal for the tips to dry faster and will they moisten up as more water roll down that stem or do you think running the mini fan below the hanging buds on high for 3 days causes this? As I said they feel a little dry but they’re not like crispy breaking up they still squish... so I hope they will even out once they go in jars... I just don’t want to throw them in jars for at least another 7-10 days. So ADVICE PLEASE :) fan or no fan? Run bathroom exhaust for few hours a day or not? Thanks!!!!8C4CD114-82DC-4573-81C1-BBDD9EC8C4C4.jpeg

+1 on the 10-14 days hanging

Typically the outside will dry and when put in jars the remaining moisture sweats out of the buds during your curing in jars

Most wait for snap in small branches/stems from all my research.

I hang dry full plant 4-7 days until buds are just getting dry, and a little crunchy on the outside . The small stems still flexible yet buds still moist and a little spongy inside. I trim them down of fan leafs and tips of sugar leafs. Put in jars with small RU meters. Over the next 4-8 hours your plants will re/wet in jars to around 70%. Anything over 65 you will want to dump the fat in a paper bag and leave out for a few hours. Repeat until you get the RU down to a stable 60% (not changing over night). The trick is never to “dry” your pot under 55%, at that point it stops curing and rewetting will only get you the grass smell. Once at stable 60% (another 6-10 days) store in Your jars in cool dark place, your bud will be hard with a little give like styrofoam. The secret is bringing it down slowly and never letting it get below 55%. When done you should have great smell, taste and aroma of the smoke all locked in. I do not like my bud dried down to lava rocks that “grind” into powder for a two joint gram. Dried this way your buds will cut and fluff up allowing you to roll bigger joint with less weed.

That’s what I’ve been aiming for... I heard the jungle boys once say 60F/60% humidity for 14 days is what they live by and will give you the cleanest smoke... dry room should be nice n cold n humid. My humidity has been around 55-61% and temps 61-68... I’m on day 4 and I removed the fan last night but I should be good right as long as I keep up that environment? I did chop her after about 5 days without water so she was already hella dry, I’m just wondering if it’s normal for the very tips of the buds like the top of the cola to already start getting a little dry... just got a little worried the fan with indirect flow was set too high that they started drying too fast but everything’s still moist and smells super dank when I squish the little nugs to check. Yesterday and today im noticing a strong chlorophyll smell coming from the room but they’re still wet no mold everything looking good... I’m guessing this is normal? Does the chlorophyll also smell while it breaks down? Cuz I can’t imagine after only 3 days I fucked anything up with me freezing my nuts off in my dry room and humidity never dropping lower than 52 and steady at 56... I think I’m just freaking out for nothing and was feeling some of the dried up fan leaves and sugar leaves too that was making it feel a little dryer than it is. I should be good right ? Thanks for the 411 btw

Very fitting name for the times Captain..., let’s hope it don’t play out the same
I've been using this name on different boards...all the way back to the days of AOL in 1995. You're about the fifth person in all that time to "get it." lol

I’ll keep you posted for sure ! Do you have an IG? I’d like to see how your first harvest comes along as well!
Nope. You can check my grow journal though. (in my sig)

Density of the buds play a huge role on how long to cure. With the looks of it those will be dry in 6to 7days max in those temp... I never go more than 6 days hanging... I like to keep them in jars with the lid open one day after

Yep, different plants will hold more water, rather be a little moist than a little dry. I always take my daily out of jar in the morning and put in a snap lid . By time I get home it’s perfect and kicking it’s scent. Also will be smoothest you ever smoke. When buds are cured instead of dried the half sugar leafs still on bud are dried but will not crumble off with your fingers ( think whole leaf cigar tobacco).

Hung for 5-7 days. 67F/50RH. (Moving indirect air/scrubber. Auto RH controller).
Trim.
2-3 nights in a jar (burped), then vacuum sealed works for me.

Nice! Sounds pretty good... that’s basically what I’m trying to get at least! I don’t wannna dry in any less than 7 days preferably 10 but I did chop the plants when they were dry as a bone.. so you can tell today on day 4 they’re starting to feel a tiny wee bit crispy mainly on the tips of the colas but now I’m getting a gnarly hay smell from the .Disney OG... everything is fine environment wise and my other 2 which were bag seeds smell nice and fruity still and they’ve been hanging right next to each other... from what I see tho some strains smell like this while they break down the chlorophyll which is depleting from the plant which is smelling pretty strong now on day 4 but if I squish a bud it’s still squishy and wet and the stems bends still so I don’t think I would have over dried it with almost perf envimorment especially that the other 2 still smell like they did. Even in flower this plant wasn’t a strong smeller unless you touched the plant and smelled your hand otherwise it just smelled like pretty much like a wet plant... almost like mildew at times during week 6/7 of flower which I realized was normal after reading tons of forums where people smelled the same thing lol... do you think if just continue to slow dry and then cure the grass smell will go away and it will smell like it does when I squeeze it?

Cured right, the grass smell will be completely gone.
I have some og kush, jack herer and bubblegum from my previous grow harvested on Christmas Day.
The way it smells and smokes now compared to 3 months ago is night and day.

For the record, the Jack Herer is some of the smoothest smoke I've ever had the pleasure of partaking. Sensi Seeds got that sh*t right.

sounds pretty close to perfect. from someone who experiences a lot of variability, I guess @ ~7 days take the mid size branch and cut the buds off stem and put in a quart jar to 3/4 full with a rH meter and close 24 hr to get a good reading. If over 65 it's not ready so take out and put it in a paper bag to dry some more. May need > 1 meter. Depending what happens do similar with the other branches. i guess the fan is a good question as to what's just right in soCa.

That’s what I figured... so as long as my weed is still drying today on day 4.. drying very nicely actually but the OG smells like little grassy and the bag seeds smells just like it did when harvested... so the ONLY thing that makes sense is SOME PLANTS smell like this in the beginning of dry while they deplete the smell... I didn’t do anything wrong... everything watered, harvested at the exact same time.. and I started getting this smell after only day 2 but if I dry this nice and slow like it is I’m guessing once it’s done curing it we’ll be nice and skunky

Yea man thanks that’s exactly what I decided to do. I wanted to go for a super long dry 14 days at 60/60 as I know for a fact that would produce a nice it has to dry as I know many master growers that say they live by that.
But after removing fan leaves and feeling how they are already on day 4 I think anything past 7 days would just be tooo much even at these ideal temps. I heard one guys talk about stressing the plant before harvest by letting it dry out on not watering to the fullest which is what I did the last week of flower I barely gave it any water and let it wilt pretty hard just giving it enough to keep it alive.... and I heard some people say let you soil get bone dry before harvest as that will speed up the dry process... but I didn’t think it would speed it up a WHOLE WEEK! I’m guessing that’s why they’re feeling already dry so quick. Still no stems snapping but I honestly like my bud super sticky so I’m gonna jar it before ALL of them completely snap

I checked my tricombs this morning AFTER I watered, and it looks like 2 of my plants are ready. So I'm in the same boat. Wasn't a full water, as I normally do 1/2 and then the other 1/2 in about an hour. So I am going to let mine dry out between today and Wednesday before I chop and put them into my drying tent. So I'm about a week behind you in my first chop. I'll be watching this thread to see how it all plays out!
