Many tests and simulations have already shown here that LED strips allow to drasticly reduce the distance. Much less light gets lost on the walls with reduced distance and you need less watt to get your desired intensity.
Last year I've used about 400w COB, 8 á 38w + 12w deepred and switched to 400w strips mixed with a few smaller CRI90 COBs. Now I've reduced to 300w because I need a lot less power when working at 12" instead of 18".
Still waiting for some connectors to finish it and put it back in the cab.

I could bet HLG already have other products with these diode combo in the pipeline. A stripe design has some key advantages from better distribution to vertical alignment and sun cloak like layouts and the thermal management is much less demanding and could easily be done via c-channels. Double row F-strips in 2ft. length run with 50w and stay cool to the touch with a 40x 40mm c-channel. That would also help to lower the costs even more. Cutters Solstrips are perfect examples for such a strip design.
From my perspective, hlg could be a lot more than it is, if they could get their executive shit together...this stuff is common sense, some hungrier company will do it, if they don’t...

Straighten me out on this “lost on the wall” crap..do photons really get absorbed on tent walls, or do they reflect until absorbed by plants/other materials?

Yes, i understand that some of their efficiency may be lost by reflecting, but they still can provide significant photosynthesis potential, can’t they?

Got any quantitative info?

Regarding strips, that’s what fluent does, especially for commercial horticultural ops.

You’ld think that indoor commercial hort growers would be pounding on the table for low profile/low heat prods, so they could maximize cube space (multi-tier) and hvac in grow rooms...

My bet is now that diode power and spectra are at/near optimum, we’ll see design shifting to total cost (materials energy heat) reduction ramping up as well as tunability....

Agreed on all counts. The same diodes, in a strip configuration, would give a builder the red-heavy SPD, but would allow them to minimize wall losses. Something like that would be pretty damn cool.

Imo, the real benefit of strips isn’t reduced photons “lost on the wall”, it is total energy/temp reduction...a small portion of which is from “lost on the walls”...

My logic:
the bigger the growspace the smaller % wall.. a 5x5 is only 25% more wall perimeter, but 50% more footprint than a 4x4...

Cube space could be even bigger change, depending on growspace height. That extra cubage takes a lot more hvac energy...which is not compensated for by reduced losses “on the wall”...

Show me where i’m wrong...

My advice would be to do serious growoffs between with extra colour and plain monochromatic first.
Sometimes what people want and what they need isn't the same thing.

Just need to get every thing out in bulk to your uk suppliers, hlg could take over the game if only it was all accessible to the world

When does giving your customers mapping by common tent size come on line?

We will do that in the future. Moving to a new facility, UL factory certification, SMT line install, and training plus business, as usual, have taken their toll.We have hired new employees but as you could guess it takes time to get them up to speed on things as well.
I’ll believe it in the unspecified future...when i see it, for now it’s just marketing bs!

For such an important deliverable, a professionally run company would have a specified date on a public roadmap...and would deliver it on-time...

Got a specified time that we can hold you to?

That's why your the boss haha the QB96 is awesome I'm glad you guys made a product that fits those cheap heatsinks just ignore the guys with the boner for strips theres plenty of strips on the market.

With all of the growing pains of moving locations and setting up to produce in house, I think cutting them a little slack is fair. I am excited to see what fun new toys HLG will be able to produce once the chaos dies down and they can get back to business as usual. That being said, hurry up and take my money dammit! haha.

I do belive that I could come up wth an infinite number of scenarios for DIY components....hence the reason they are DIY.... Does Cree publish par maps for thier cobs? Those unprofessional assholes lol. I'll have some this do this task soon. You seem to think that wasting a day on doing par maps isn't a big deal. I think my priorities are in line. You wouldn't shun setting up equipment you spent 600k on to do some par maps for some rude person on a forum would you? You surely wouldn't stop that progress and added capabilities to satisfy less than 100th of 1 percent of your customers. We will do those charts when we have time
