Urca, something I learned after my SIX years of college. Is that you need to worry about 1 thing only... school. Having a job while in school is good to have, but look into work-study programs. Usually you sit at a desk somewhere helping visitors, leaving you with lots of time to get studying done.

Have you looked into the the p grant? or the work-force grant? REALLY look into grants and scholarships before jumping into loans, they r brutal and if you don't read EVERY bit of the paperwork you could end up really kicking your self in the ass later on. I plan on living shitty for another 2 years (aka duplex with shitty car, eating very shitty food :/) to pay off my school loans in big lump sums, so that interest does not stack up. By the way, anthropology is VERY interesting. Most jobs are research type jobs and you get to travel the world exploring other cultures , living with tribes and what not with a completely unbiased opinion. I took an introductory anthro class, but was steered away by the insanely CRAZY teacher I had. She had spent like 4 years with some amazon tribe tripping some kind of cactus juice... she was completely bonkers.. me "How are you doing today Dr. BLAHBLAH" her "Just sucking air"....

for my community college costs I was able to get a cal grant for about 1,551. so at least for my community college ill be able to afford it, each unit is 36 bucks, so 36x14 is what will be deducted from my check when I get it.

I tried to get the classes I need, but they were all full. and only three of the classes I am taking right now are ones I need to transfer. The fourth one, which is French, I took so that I would be able to recieve all of my financial aid

So I went to the community college today to talk to a counselor. I got there at 6:30 so I could be able to make an appointment. There were about 25 people ahead of me. i was one of the last couple people before they started to turn people away. when i got there, she wouldnt make me an appointment, but a drop in slip, which basically meant i had to sit there until they called my name. Finally, after almost 6 hours they called my name, and I got to speak to a counselor. And he got me pumped!!! Helped me select classes : English, Speech, Algebra, Anthropology and Anthropology Lab. I register tomorrow morning. I am fucking pumped
thats great. would you be doing things like digging for bones and stuff like that? mb you might meet a hot guy like indiana jones.

hahaha maybe. and as for digging up bones, I wouldnt be doing that. I would learn about human evolution, about how different races developed, how they learned to use tools, etc. the anthropology lab would be learning how to deal with human remains in a lab setting. unfortunatly i have to wait until spring to take those classes because they are full

I wouldn't worry. You might change your major and need some foreign language. I just graduated with my BA so I'm kind of envious. College was good times.

At community college, don't worry about they're graduation requirements. Just look at the class requirements at the university you want to attend.

As far as the all-mighty $$ goes, look into grants, scholarships and what not. If you can swing A's and B's at the CC, not only will it open grants, but it also opens up the possibility of various scholarships. As far as 'what you want to do,' I'm 35, working on my masters degree, and I still don't know what I want to do. So far I've narrowed it down to wanting to be making music somehow. Beyond that I really don't care.

I got my degree in 2001 in music performance after 6 majors and 7 years of college. I ended up being told I basically had to find a major and stay with it or just take a 'gen ed' degree and leave. So I chose what I loved doing at school for the previous 5 years, playing my cello. Two years later I left with a degree and a truck load of electives.

I went out in to the 'real' world and got a 'real' job while trying to start my masters. The 40+ hour work week and incompatibility with my new professor left me only working and not in school after a very short semester. The next 9 years were in the IT work force. While I did well and made fairly decent money, I hated what I was doing, who I was doing it for, and ultimately was miserable.

I picked up my cello after almost a decade and practiced myself to the bone and 6 months later I quit my 9 year career in IT and enrolled in school for my masters degrees (I'm doing 2.) From there I'll be going on to a doctoral degree, in something musically interesting to be determined.

The point is; take what you think you'll enjoy, you'll not always be right, but you'll also learn what you don't enjoy along the way. After a while it will become clear, hopefully you're not as scattered as I am. I started as Mass Comm, ended up in Pre-Law, Child-Psych, Hospitality, and a couple other I can't even remember; however my ultimate passion was under my nose the entire time as I had a Music Minor from day 1, and that never changed.

You're young, money will come and go, it's better when it's headed you're way but you'll get through the rough times. This is one of the few times I tell people to rely on the government, hit up those grants, loans, and scholarships. Keep your grades high so you get more bank at the financial aid office. Other than that, have fun learning; don't get too bogged down in the 'future' it'll happen one way or another and trust me, you won't be prepared, but at least you'll have a clue.
