PS3 vs XBOX cast your thoughts

Well it's like making a thread about which CFL is better, it doesn't matter if there is a better or worse one, the obvious answer is is it not possible to use an HPS instead ;)

And yes, COD sucks, single player is on the whole, fun, if linear and short, but multiplayer is just a bunch of prepubescent twats who shouldn't be allwed to buy microphones not now not ever :D just to generalise haha, but it sucks hairy moose balls. For me battlefield 2 was a great game in terms of having fun but they cocked up all the weapon physics and animations and sounds to such an extent that it was half ruined.

You don't need to buy a Blu-Ray player on top of your PS3. It is one.

I can access over 10000 of my videos and 20000+ songs with PS3 Media Server or all the major network podcasts all with my Blu-Ray remote.

I am on my 4th (should be fifth as ROM drive is missing on my current 360) XBOX.

I am on my first PS3 still. None of my friends have had to ever replace their PS3's, everyone that has a 360 is on at least their second one.

I see HUGE benefits of being able to browse all my shared media (3.5+TB) all with one remote.
The same laptop that streams with PS3 media server, can't play the same movies with software media players like VLC. I can render full HD Blu-Ray streams, with DTS or AC3 audio (even DTS-MA). My 360 can't even play most MP4's or AVI files.

Not a fan boy at all. In fact I used to fanboy war with my friends who all ran PS3's when all I had was my 360. Now I am a member of both worlds, and can say that the 360 has NOWHERE near the capabilities of the PS3....and the gaming world is only SLIGHTLY better on the 360.

Don't get me wrong. I have streamed on both. PS3 hands down. Gamed on both....360 slight edge. I can also use my setup as a HTPC setup as well, but having it all in one place is super sweet.

I like my setup.

1- 360
1- PS3 Slim 250GB
1- 19" monitor
1- 26" monitor/TV
1- 40" monitor/TV
2- computers...Acer laptop (bottom blacked out screen) and HP desktop
1- Panasonic Blu-Ray player that has NOT been fw updated, so DRM movies can still be played on it.
1- Sony DivX player
1- Marantz 5.1 amplifier with speakers/sub
2- Seagate 1TB ext. HDD's
1- Verbatim 500GB HDD

Every wired device is linked at 1GB via Cat 5e cables.

That is just what you see in my bedroom/command center.

My roommate also runs a PS3 and we have a wireless N bridge running his gear all at 1 GB LAN speed off a DAP-1522 Bridge/AP between all his devices (see my map) Our setups are linked with N WiFi for cross sharing folders.

My roommate knows very little about PC's or streaming, but he can't live without the setup we have now.

I'm sorry you don't see the benefit, and many don't. But OH SO many do.

If the thread was which is a better gaming console, then I would have said the 360 by a nose...but the title was "PS3 or Xbox360 Cast your Thoughts"

So I thought I should point out the capabilities of each.

PS: People should actually Google things or actually know what they are talking about. Like saying that you can't buy Blu-Ray's for less than 30$.....go to WalMart. 9$ Canadian for new Blu-Rays.

Or lame ass lines like.....if you have a PS3 you have herpes...FACT!!!! Grow up Fanboy, your cheese is starting to mold.

Saying that Blu-Ray is a waste of money......OKAY....keep watching your low resolution video....I'll watch HD content. Have fun with that....lol.

Getting knocked out of COD sessions....that is a COD server issue and it happens on both Xbox Live and PSN....NOT a PSN issue specifically. My roommate plays COD and gets booted all the time....loses hosts. Meanwhile I play Battlefield series at the same time, and my connection nearly never drops. Xbox Live can be just as stubborn.

I run NetFlix on both so 1 for 1.

P.P.S. : I can actually reboot/shutdown/sleep/hibernate any serving PC from the XMB of my PS3 by using my Sony Blu-Ray remote. Try doing that with a 360 lol.
hey man first off kudos on the setup this is basically what im hoping with time and money to set im pretty big on gaming and entertainment myself.
i didnt say you will need a blu-ray player in addition to the ps3 but it seems weird to me that half the people i know use that as their first argument... its almost never the gaming expirience that serves as a criterion to whether the system is good or not... and i do agree that for a gaming expirience xbox is only slightly ahead, but it is clearly ahead, and if you have good hd-wmv site you can stream full hd movies easily from any computer, and xbox is compatible with .avi and even .mkv if you try hard enough...
what i would say in favour for the ps3 as that its way more open with the possibilty to run linux (and now even homebrew) on it and obviously for better connectivity with a pc... but for that really why not just get a silightly expensive computer and be done with it? i think if someone isnt all that in to gaming hes probably waisting money on the x360 or the ps3...

I think BluRay is just like BetaMax, it's going to die soon. Yeah 1080P, wow. It's just not THAT big of a deal moving from DVD to BluRay. VHS to DVD was huge. DVD to 3D will be huge, but BluRay is just a bastard child in between. Yes, the ability to store massive amounts of data on a single disc is cool but due to the BluRay war killing HDDVD, those prices are going to take forever to come down. How much for a dual layer BR? Yeah, about $16 a pop! By the time they are reasonably priced 3D will be everywhere.

Thanks man. Took me some time to get it all figured but it works awesome. I have yet to find any file I can`t open either by xbox, ps3 or PC.

The PS3, with the program I use, can stream MKV, pretty much out of the box...though a recent update to MKVMerge has broken some compatibility, requiring remux with an older version. This takes about 5 minutes and the new file plays just fine.
I can also render to my 360 with a tweaked version of PS3 Media Server called MAGMA. Which allows 5.1 streaming of DTS and AC3 (Dolby Digital) which was a HUGE downfall for my 360 when it was all I had. I could get MKV to work but only in 2 channel audio stream and I had to tweak codec packs and all that crap with Tversity.....and they often froze, stuttered, burped and farted.

PS3 Media Server plays all but approximately 10 out of literally thousands of videos of varying container formats:
mp4, m2ts,avi,divx,vob etc.

different audio codecs
flac, dts,ac3,aac etc.

It can also render subtitles

Cinavia DRM broke some playback capabilities up until I found a link online that breaks it right back....plus I have ways to make movies with DTS and Cinavia DRM play as well. So....fuck you Sony:finger: .....nice try but this pirate will always find a way to sail the seas......LOLOLOLOL

Yeah, the Blu-Ray player is an added perk, but now BR players are so cheap, it is not a sticking or selling point like it was 2 years ago.

I also like the fact I can multi out the display of the PS3. That way I can run it on either the 26`screen or the 40``screen. That way I can run the 360 on the big screen, and do my podcasts, and HDTV rip watching on the 26` at the same time...and as well I can flip inputs on the 26 screen, and browse my HP Vista desktop and use the smaller monitor to browse the internet or whatever from my Acer laptop. It is damn near media overload, but lately I have been RDP`ing to friends houses and setting up their PS3 Media Servers from the luxury of my own room.....don`t even need to shovel the driveway to go over to their house and set it up. They can also VPN to my network and pick and choose the movies they want to watch, then simply copy to their HDD and then share on their PS3. Still working on the whole setup....but this will lead to much greater things I hope.

I actually have my two linked computers running on different screens. Win 7 on the small screen 19`, and Vista running to the 26`screen. But I actually only use one keyboard and mouse, and I can simply drag my mouse from one screen to the other....just like extended desktop.....but two different computers. I can also clipboard between the two computers. The Vista machine is the Master and the 7 machine is the Slave. The keyboard functions one way on the 7 machine and another on the Vista......different button configs. As well I can have different cursors, and mouse functions on either. As soon as you drag from one screen to the other, both the keyboard and mouse function according to that OS`s demands. Quite handy.
The program is called INPUT DIRECTOR. Super awesome and totally free.

Soon I should be able to use PS3 Media server to view a grow room via ip cams by simply turning on my PS3 and clicking on an icon. How sweet would that be. Hmmm. Between games, waiting to load, or waiting for players.....back out, go into the PS3 Media icon, select the appropriate folder then, hellooo......live stream of your grow room, with a cam pointing at digital read outs for humidity and temp and ph. I could setup ftp filing as well. That way keep a snap shot every 10 seconds or so....in case you get robbed or something happens.

I could go as far as actually running a program to cycle EVERYTHING over the net, but that will take me some more figuring. Still working on the coding for how to password protect the stream but still use the media server.....tricky.

True, true.

But people who say there is no difference....or very little. I don`t know, but eye tests are cheap....lol. Not even counting the incredible sound difference on HD media.

I thought the same thing with CD vs. cassette tapes. Got my first CD and a player way back in the day and listened to it and thought.....man, not much of a difference. That is until I put a cassette tape back in and played it.....YIKES.

I don`t really care what format, filetype etc I am watching, as long as it looks and sounds good.

Even webcams are 1080 now. And I think I just heard about 3D 1080 webcams...crazy

But we are all suckers. All this technology has been out for years....they just give us little bits of it at a time, we scoop it up and ask for the next bag of tricks, eagerly drooling on the floor or :wall:

They just sit back and laugh and roll in all the money they make, and money they know they will be making in the near future.......then try and tell us what we can and can`t do with our own media by adding firmware updates that TRY to keep us controlled........... its a conspiracy man. LOL.

conspiracy.jpg

Look at 3D....a year and a half ago it was like.....`HOLY SHIT 3D` now it`s everywhere, and its still just a baby in terms of product age progression. Sell us on something for a while then flood the market...at the same time throwing out hints about the next greatest thing......UHDTV . Can`t remember where I heard or read that....maybe I just bongsmilie too much.

But yeah......Ultra High Definition Television.....pornos will reach out and give you a handjob or whatever you want....kee-ripes. Just kidding about the hand jobs....before you all get Googlitus Tendonitus

Do you want a gaming machine that is usually fun? Xbox
Do you want a media machine that is sometimes fun? PS3
Do you want both? PC

PS3 has better games and more exclusives, it's free online, you get a blu-ray player.
360 has great online service, good exclusives, more entertainment features.

I have both, just got a new live account since mine expired and I didn't want to pay to change the tag. Just set up a new PSN account too.
About to set up the gaming rig when I finish some home repairs and such. Hopefully in the next few weeks.

Can't way to sit back and play some final fantasy.

I'm sold on the Playstation. I love the controllers that the Playstation has. I find it so much easier to use. Plus, I have been using the same controller since the 1st Playstation came out. I also like the fact that the PS3 has a blu-ray player installed in it, so that is a definite plus compared to the xbox. You also get the Playstation Network for free compared to the $10 a month fee that I believe you have to pay for xbox's internet network. I have many friends that swear by xbox, but I am not one of those people.

And then we have the call of duty series...
Where you can play it on any system and it's still going to suck dick.

I'm still trying to sell my cod games on craigslist and nobody wants to pay more than 20 bucks.
