see, you're a good father :) dont beat yourself up, and dont be angry with him (sounds like you stayed calm with him), just stay firm with whatever you sentence him to.... cause you know, and HE knows that he'll get a slap on the wrist from the law....

Kids make dumb decisions. Happens when their bored, with friends or around chicks. I straightened out when I got a job and some responsibility. Bet 99% of the people on here can testify to the fact that they needed an a$$ whooping from the ages of 13-18. Let him know that actions like this hurt you as his father and disrespect the family name. Tell him it's time to grow up a bit and make better decisions. What would of happened if the person was home and had a gun? Do B and E charges get dropped when kids hit 18? If so this can be a valuable lesson. Being a parent is very nerve-racking but you seem to know the deal. Peace!

thxs Imlovinit,,,yes I agree,,,and I think he did have to much time on his hands,,and apparently there was a chick involved trying to sell some of the stuff,,thats how he got caught,,she got caught,,and ratted him out

It was a girl that straightened me up. An ass whooping wouldnt have done shit for me at that age, except a quicker self ejection from "home". Look, I dont know you or the situation, so all I have is what you type. First thing I noticed was (I GIVE him STUFF, whats wrong with him?) but what about emotional exchange?, and (His mom is a crack addict). Well gee, I wonder why he's dealing with f'd up women... We are animals of imitation, they (kids) only reflect this. I hope you luck tho, for parenthood is a b*tch.

I know what you mean, but it would be a great lesson in humility. Maybe you walk up to the door first, and tell them your son wants to apologize. I can understand not wanting him to be in that situation at all though.

I thought of that yesterday,,he still has stolen goods which we are turning over to the cops,,but I thought,,what if we went to the house he stole it from and gave it back,,,,he's already being charged,,,but then I thought,,if it was my house ,,I wouldn't want that person on or near my property,,,,,they have been violated in a major way and may not take to well to him and I at there door
I wouldn't do that hole...it could possibly create a situation where you can get into it with the homeowner....think about it...what if you went to the place where all this took place and the dude started in on you...how bad of a parent you are...blah blah...even though you know you're not, you don't need the aggravation and the bullshit that could possibly happen. Just my 2 cents

going to the owner's house and trying to make restitution personally will go ALONG way with the judge-
also doing some community service before court shows intent of remorse and will normally make a giant impression

make him change his whole life(i.e. straight a's at studies, job performance, helping neighbors) that type of thing will appear to the court as "fixed" and will result in lesser penalty and maybe (you never know), it just may stick

I hear ya Murfy,,,,but,,if the violated go off,,,I'm not sure if I'd stand there and cry,,or pummell the dude,,,neither is a pretty picture,,,,if anything,,I would leave the remaining stolen goods at there door,,with a fully explanatory note saying my son has admitted,,and is being charged,,and is gonna pay

I don't believe you failed at anything, the neighborhood kids probably had a huge influence on it.There is most likely an older kid influencing them. You might want to find him and whoop his ass lol j/k

Id just look at it like it could be a lot worse,The owner could of been home and armed or he could of got a home invasion charge because the cops wanted to be dicks.
If there anything like the states I can see them dropping the B&E to criminal trespassing and taking off the receiving stolen property. My little brother was just caught doing the same thing but they charged his dumbass as an adult because they found a gun.

Good luck im sure everything will end up fine.

Great thread, hits home for me....I have 2 young boys, Ive always told my wife my biggest fear is them getting into the stupid situations that I did as a kid, and not having the good luck that I did to make it through pretty much unscathed.

You know, my dad would have frogmarched me right to the house and made me appologise....and fuck the police, if those people don't press charges or drops them, i don't think anything further will come of it.

Leaveing a note is a shitty childish thing to do, be a human, face the man, you did nothing wrong.

well if theres 1 thing ive learnt about bein strict is, if you go overboard, the shit hits the fan and they go awol and do some seriously stupid shit that when thier 19 they literally cry when thinkin bout it, dont be too soft either, get him a lil job so he gets some cash to spend so he doesnt NEED to steal, monitor who hes hangin around wit, does he blaze, if so mayb its time u and him sat down and had a REAL session, get him to understand what is truly right and wrong, make him understand that robbing people of hard earned things is wrong, make him learn that havin a quik fag isnt truly bad as u do expect him to experiment, however try to get him to expiriment wit the right things i.e a lil bit of weed or doin a sport, make him see through the lies that hes been told about whats right and wrong and make him realize to himself whats truly right and wrong, make him truly regret what hes done, give him his stuff back u dnt wnt him to connect happiness to matireal things uncounciosly otherwise shit will just get worse, ima come back for more but ima lil bit too baked at the mo.
