powdery mildew, please help

ive read the FAQ about it but my question to yall is what is the best way to get rid of it. my plants are only 3 weeks old and they are in a hydroponic system.. the temp is around 83 day 73 night with a humidity of 40% and very good air circulation... i also have a vertical fan that has an ionizer

the mildew is on the stem and last night i found it on a tiny spot on a leaf... my system is exactly like the steathhydro bubbleponic system... a continuos flow

from the medium up to the first node... i have rockwool cubes with hydro rocks

i think its damping off or pythium wilt.. whichever you want to call it.. its from the rockwool holding to much water and fungis growing on it... with the constant flow of water it never has time to drain so its soaked... and that usually cause damping off... the growing medium being to wet... it could be all the way through your root system but its hard to say.. sadly you cant do anything about it.. once it sets on its fatal to the plant... im sorry... it sucks... i would highly reccomend if you use a constant bubbler system not using the rockwool because of the amount of moisture it holds... thats just me though... but... sorry for the bad news..

if the plants are healthy and dont have it i wouldnt worry about it.. not every plant will get it... and it wont happen everytime... its just the cause of it is the rockwool holding to much moisture.. if anything i would put your bubbler on a timer... the rockwool and hydroton will hold enough moisture in between to keep the plant more than happy... and itll give the rockwool time to dry out a little...

i went ahead and removed all the rockwool... i actually think this will be much better... after seeing the roots up close i notice small white bumps on the main upper root stem... is that what youre talking about

white powdery mildew mold builds up pretty much anywhere on a plant that is wet and doesnt get to dry normaly.I have also battled this problem while misting my plants and water sticking two leaves together and the white fuzz begins there and soons spreads.

if your roots were nice and white with no browing or slime or anything then they are healthy... use your plant that has it as a comparison for the rest.. but it sounds like the rest of your plants are good... good luck

how do you come up with this? the OP said POWDERY MILDEW. somehow you just decide it is something totally different and start giving advice how to fix it. i'm confused. :-|

thats why i asked about where it was on the stem... daming off or pythium rot is a POWEDERY MILDEW THAT APPEARS ON THE STEM RIGHT ABOVE THE GROWING MEDIUM.. IT IS CAUSED FROM THE GROWING MEDIUM BEING TO WET.. i didnt just spit out advice... check it out if you dont think i know what im talking about.. but from everything he told me and everything i have read and know it the symptoms fit the diagnosis perfectly...

trust me.. im not into giving bad advice.. it sucks when you spend months of your own time and hard work to have to screwed up by the advice of someone who doesnt know what they are talking about.. and especially on a public forum where i can be completely discredited i wouldnt just tell someone something to act like i know what im talkin about...

Spray straight Grocery Store grade hydrogen peroxide on the scale.. that's what the Master Gardeners are saying. Whole Ground Cornmeal Tea will take care of the bad fungi & mold, but promote the good stuff.

I have this powdery white stuff around the stem, looks exactly like rooting powder, but its on a living plant and I was just planning on leaving it...?

I guess I'll q-tip this stuff off...

Forgot, a fairly new product called "Plant Wash" put out by Soil Menders will do the job, also.

thank you texas... i bought the spray of plant wash... but i also would like to say that i removed all the rockwool cubes and sprayed the effected area with a baking soda/water solution and i havent seen any more signs of powdery mildew
