That is also a guess based on product lables, but I think it's worth looking into.

I recently had pythium issue when transplanting from a small DWC cloner which hadn't been amended with pool shock. My current grow is at my friends place. I'm only there for one or two days a week. He missed dosing with chlorine. Brown tan roots to begin with, smelled like rotten carrots. Took about 2 weeks with 1-2ppm residual for them to become pristine white all over again.
I also used Polysorbate 20 in combination to do this, but just for the first 4 initial days. Results speak for themselves really. Practical knowledge beats theoretical all days of the week.

I always thought polysorbate was an emulsifier used in cosmetics. Did you use it as a wetting agent?

Your not wrong! It's used in everything from food to cosmetics and cleaning products. I use it as surfactant and cleaning agent, it's really effective at combating Pythium. I use it as surfactant in foliar spray.
I also clean my system between runs with it. It a little tricky to work with though!

Well I have drained the res again today to test it. Tapwater and Calcium Hypochlorite at 0.75 grams per 100 litres show up as 0.4 - 0.5 ppm on a test strip so I flushed the plants with this solution. As soon as I added nutrients nothing showed on the strip, so the nutrients obviously change or neutralize the CH. I will water the plants tomorrow with the CH nutrient mix.
I don't want to just keep adding more CH. If it is the Nitrogen that is changing the Chlorite I worry what is happening to the Nitrogen as a result.
I believe the chlorite may be changing to Chloramine which is what I think Pythoff contains.

I think it has more to do with how the nutrient solution react with the strip. It's intended for pools etc. Do whatever you like. People has been using sodium and calcium hypochlorite successfully for years, including me! Good luck!
