My pop was in his early 20s when he was shipped off....scared to death, as anyone in their right mind would be...
....And then ten odd years later off to Korea. According to family/friends, he was mr. 'gung ho' well into his 40s, to the point where he was ready for Saigon deployment but was basically told 'you've got a family now, you've done your service, blah blah blah'.

I use to work with an old marine that tried enlisting during WW2. He reenlisted during the Korean War and spoke of horrible things that happened over there involving the Chinese Army intervening on behalf of the North Koreans.

Even if you think Jews are clever and most evil humans, USA didn't join the war just to save Jews from Holocaust or Germany. In fact, USA denied Jewish refugees trying to seek refuge.
USA joined the war for geopolitical reason, because its allies were being attacked, and Germany was trying to take over the world (Jews or no Jews).
