from what i gather, there are techtonic plates shifting under the gulf of mexico. BP (or whoever they decided was fit to do the underground scans) knew that there was volcanic and techtonic activity going on near the massive oil well they found. im not sure what caused the pipe to puncture, i can guess it was shifting plates, but BP would have to be stupid or evil not to have foreseen something like this happening.
Shifting plates would have nothing to do with this, especially since it was above the ocean floor.

the oil under ocean is under a ton of pressure that is what caused the blowout...its not normally a big deal IF ur BOP is functioning properly and everyone knows what there doin u can shut the well ive done it many times.
In the 1st week or so i remember seeing that they may have used seawater as a drilling fluid instead of the thicker heavier mud which keeps the oil from coming up but i havent heard anymore so i dont know if its true

every one is mistaken. A few days before the blow out the gasket that is used to seal the pipe was damaged and never repaired. Under the ocean floor are large deposits of methane gas. When they drilled this particular hole they hit a pocket of methane. once they removed the drill they released the pressure holding the methane and it shot up and blew out that damaged gasket causing a major explosion that consumed the hole rig killing 9 people and injuring many others.

Does not change the fact they drilled in a location that they had no way to control in case of a disaster. If it happened at a depth that they could reach it would have be fixed the next day. But the dumb shits drilled at a depth that they could not. That is the heart of the problem!

have you seen on the news that BP is buying up google and yahoo terms? probably to make it harder to find the truth. they also keep reporters from sowing the worst of the spill. they showed us that shitty video of the sill that was like 1ft away from the leak when they had a HD camera with a better view of the damage that they kept secret

add to their list of crimes; infringement of constitutional rights

In terms of the blame game my understanding is that BP have a reputation for cutting corners and fixating on the bottom line. This would be a problem with that company's corporate culture.

The evidence is clear that the BOP wasn't 100% at the time it was installed and that once it was in place further malfunctions occurred. A more cautious operator would have halted somewhere in the cascading chain of problems in order to properly resolve them - remember, 11 people died, there is a matter of direct criminal culpability here - replace or repair the BOP or something.

And do not forget Halliburton, whose cementing of the wellhead was also problematic according to reports.

I've also read that standard BOPs aren't adapted to the pressures and conditions of the depth at that location and there are studies indicating unacceptably high failure rates at such depths.
