Please advice

Hi,
I guess you are sick of people asking around and complaining that the "babies" are feeling ill and asking for help and advice. But you guys from what I saw on this great forum, you have much experience and you've seen it all. So...please, give me some advice. I am new in growing babies(but I am growing them with passion), so I am still learning.

Regarding my setup...I know it's not how it should be, but it is what I can afford at the moment. So...one baby, one pot , one light.

As soil I used "Houseplant Compost" from B&Q, as light...it's one 500 W halogen lamp ( it's an industrial type...working lamp). I keep the baby at about 35-40 cm distance from the light. I don't have any ventilation but I have a small room where I am keeping the baby alone and has much air, but the temp is good. I don't have any pH meter either Regarding the light period...I am keeping it at 20/4 at the moment.

And...last my baby is 16 days old and ~ 19 cm tall.

Concerns that I have:
1. Isn't the plant to...tall? And if yes...that would mean the light is to far...but...if I'll bring it closer...I am afraid that it will burn the baby.
2. I've noticed on one of the leafs that there is a discoloration/ less pigmentation and the tendency of the area to curl from the side. What is the cause? and what should I do?
3.I am watering the plant from 3 to 3 days with about 400 ml of still water. Should I do otherwise ?
4. At the moment I am not putting any fertilizer on the baby cause on the soil they say that it's coming with plenty of fertilizer for the first 8 weeks, so I don't want to stress and burn the fragile root now. Am I doing it the right way?
I'll put some pictures, please advice. 2011-11-18 18.18.30.jpg

That foil is facing the wrong direction, using the shiny side will create hot spots. As previously mentioned, halogens are of little use to plants...wrong light spectrum. And if you are using a pre-fertilized soil mix(which sounds like you are), go easy on any additional nutes. Your watering schedule seems good.

Happy growing!

don't use a halogen light mate if you aint got the money to get a hps get some cfl's a halogen is totally the wrong spectrum and gives off loads of heat
good luck

i agree with what everyone is saying about the halogen. go grab yourself a couple 6500k (daylight) CFL bulbs and rig up a DIY . the plant will get more usable light out of a couple of cheap CFL than they will from that halogen and not having all thet heat is a major bonus.

other than that the plant actually looks pretty good. get some better light on them and see what a difference it makes. using CFL will save you on having to vent and save on your electric bill and at walmart its like 7 bucks for a 2 pack of 6500k daylight CFL 26w is the highest i have seen at walmart if you want higher watt you may have to check elsewhere.

I find home supply stores a good CFL source, Menards in the US has them up to 200 watts...that's some pretty good output but they go up in cost according to wattage.

Thanks a mil for the fast reply! I will try to find a solution for the lights...tomorrow I am going to search some CFL, only problem I don't know if I'll find any with that much amount of lumens... and by the way, this is my current lamb at the moment 2011-11-18 18.18.15.jpg

In the country I am currently living...they kinda banned the CFLs, due to the mercury content :)) but still you can find them in some places on a max of 20w...I have to check the lumens now and to hope to find some Y connectors or something...

someone was just telling me that the higher wattage isnt always the best in CFL's

baisicly what he said was after 45w (i think) they actually produce less usable light. im not sure about this theory but just throwing it out there

get away from the halogen....as already said, but I see heat stress on your plant....the leaf that is curling up, is from excessive heat and will get worse if you don't move light farther away... that's why they are not good way to hot!!!

cfl or flurs...if you can't afford the HID or HPS lights
(6500k temp/blue) for veg, and (2700k temp/orange) for flowering

I moved the light last night at about 1 m distance(temporary thing) and now I'm going to buy some CFL's DL. I'll aim for the 20w bulbs cause I don't think that I'll find bigger. In any case I'll make sure to have 6500k lumens. Thank you guys for the tips and wish me luck. All the best

It was a nasty trip, I felt like I was in a quest today. I've been searching on the entire city for daylight light bulbs and nobody had them until a small shop. I found 3 of them, 35w daylight Ecopal 6400k. One of them is not working but I am left with 2. Now hopefully everything will be calm and the baby will have what it needs.
I moved it. I have a spare bathroom that I am not using, small place with a shower cabin. I made that place the new home for the baby. I installed a metal bar above the cabin and hanged the 2 light bulbs from the cable at about...10 cm distance from the plant. I'll come with some pictures later on.
Guys, thank you for your kind advices and tips!

This sounds like my recent quest for dry ice, glad you found something.

100% true.
With CFL's, as the (actual) wattage increases, the efficiency decreases.

Example:
The 23w ones are the most efficient I've found so far, at +/- 1600 lumens each.
The 45w ones are +/- 2600 lumens each. And so on.
So for roughly the same wattage, you'd get 3200 lumens by using 2 of the 23w ones.

and do I need a specific amount of lumens per plant? as I was saying, now I have 2x 35w daylight 6400k for one baby
