Plants per 1000w

Almost everybody does pot sizes differently, whether it be final pot or just what pots you transplant into. Last harvest I did 6 plants in 3 gals under a 1000w and only got 12 ounces, granted about half hermied towards the end. I'm starting a new grow this week and I'm still undecided on what I'm gonna do for plant numbers or pot size. So I just wanted to see what everyone else has had success with, what size pots do you finish in and what do you transplant from to get there, and how much do you yield from what strains? Thanks in advance.

Depends on how big you let your plants get and how much of a footprint they take up by training them or whatever. Might be 2 big trained plants in 7+gallons, or 20 plants in 1 gallon containers. No correct answer really, it's up to you.

My last grow I had 4 plants in 5 gal pots that completely filled the area under a 600W.

I am still waiting for 4 plants to show but right now I have 8-5gal buckets with females and 4 others yet to show in 1/2 gal pots and when they show I will pick the best one and put it into a 5 gal bucket so I will end up with 9-5gal buckets under my 1000k. Check out my grow. I did lst all of them and it seems 9 is the right number for my 4.5'x4' area.

Wow thats a lot of big pots, how big do you let them get? And do you fill the entire pot with soil?

I do as many as 25 clones freshly rooted in 2" x 2" x h" cubes cut from rockwool slab in a 3' x 3' x 7" flood and drain table filled with lava rock and hydroton. If I am growing with multiple 1kw hps units I'll up the size of the table to 4' x 4' and change up the bonnets reflector angle. The 3' x 3' table has a 6' x 6' skirt of reflective white and black on the back plastic.

I just switched to flower and the tallest is 22 inches and the shortest is 17 inches. So I am expecting to have a finished height in the neighborhood of 4 ft. Yes the pots are to the top with soil. If it gets too crowded in the grow space I will move what is needed outside as I am in florida and have extended grow seasons.

I could squeeze 12 in my space if I had to but 9 is the best fit I think. As far as what the light will handle I thing it works out more to a square footage thing as opposed to a number of plants. 1000 lights my space 4.5x4 perfectly and I think it will cover 5x5

In my current 2L setup, I have 24 plants under my 400w with room to spare; you could fit maybe 60 under a 1k ;)

depends on the strain and how much time I am going to veg. If I am gonna veg like 2 months+, I'll use 5 gallon pots and do 6-7 per 1000 watt light.

If I am only gonna veg like 2-4 weeks, I'll usually flower in 3 gallon pots and do 9 per 1000 watt light. Certian strains like Arctic Sun or Northern lights, I will use 1.5 gallon pots I think (7x7) and I will use 16-25 per 1000 watt light. And there are some strains that I like to grow in just single colas so I will use 6x6 pots and do 49 of them per 1000 watt light. Typically I would rather use 2 600's instead of a single 1000watt light. Especially with single colas..

Thanks, your answers by far the best, I'm not trying to veg for 2+ months so I think I'll try 9 in 3 gals and veg them for like a month. I was thinking of running either OG plants, or chocolope, I'm assuming the og's would grow better with the 9 3 gals but if I go chocolope I think I'll do bigger plants

Just to be different Im gonna say veg for 3 weeks in 3 gal with 12 plants. I'm currently running 4 in 5 gal that vegged 6 weeks. I've done 18 in 2 gal 12/12 from seed. Uhhh 12 in 2 gal with a couple week veg. Theres so many options!

I have grown OG Kush tons of times and I have tried many techniques but I have found that it depends on which OG kush you are growing. So many things called OG Kush now. I have seen some that don't look anything like what I would expect an OG to grow like (lanky, stretchy, lots of sites), literally big bushes that don't get over 4 ft tall. I think it depends on who's version of OG Kush you are growing. If I don't know and have no expectation of how the plant will grow, I would usually go with 9 per light in 3 gal pots. But you really do need to experiment with different techniques to find out what is best for your particular genetic.

I have grown Chocolope before but it was in a SOG that I was doing 49 a light. It responded pretty good to that set up. I never tried to grow them out in larger plants so can't offer much there. DNA has most of their strains on Youtube with growing advice and suggestions. You may want to look for their vids and go to their site and see what the breeders suggest...

Trim the lowers out. top them off before they go in. scrog the top and install orca paper.I dont think it matters what size of plant you use id go with fewer trained and screened over the top.Or even tomato cages around them.Tomato cages are cheap and come in many sizes. This will allow you to take the stress of the plants and will let you maintain a better canopy. It will also allow the light to be more evenly distributed through the plants and colas. The main thing to try and do is keep a even full canopy under the lamp no matter how many plants you use.The Orca paper i just mentioned is the shit and will add a lot of light diffused light reflection in the area.
If the light is not reaching the bud effectively you might as well remove the branch that is not getting effective light..It is best to remove that branch before the plant ever goes into bud to increase the size and energy to the remaining bud sites that will develop. It also allows more air movement around the bud that IS developing.
A 2 lb pull off of a 1000 is very doable then some if you do it right. Its a gram a watt is all.
These are things that helped me greatly increase the production of my grow. These things are rather cheap and easy to do and i hope they would help you also.
