Plants getting too tall

I'm growing a single WW that's three weeks into flower. The problem is it's really close to getting too tall for my closet. It's nearly fifty inches tall, including the pot, and today I just moved the HPS to the highest I could get it. If it gets any taller I've got to tie it down. I've read a ton about tieing down but I'm still a bit confused. So I'm wondering if I'm going to do it right. I'm going to tie a string to the cola then tie the other end to the pot so it'll bend the cola so it'll grow sideways. Is this all I need to do or am I missing something here? (I'm a bit paranoid I might snap the cola in half )

LST is easy as pie my man. U got the right idea. Just do it slowly so u don't snap a branch off ya know. U can also pinch the stem and kinda roll it in ur fingers to soften it up if need be, which u may need to do this late in the grow as the stems ofthe plants stiffen up. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice... I've had a fan blowing pretty good on the plant from day one so the stalk is crazy thick so I might have to go that route.

if you pinch or squeeze the stem to make it bend easier wouldnt that damage the plant and possibly kill it?

Use something soft ... plant tape is always the best but something like yarn will work well too. Nothing to thin and able to cut into the plant should be used .. and tie loosely. Tie as high as you can and if possible pull the top over until it is roughly parallel with the floor. It will throw the plant off balance so it would be a good idea to stake the plant and tie to it or you can tie the main stem to the stake and then tie the top to the main stem, or down to the pot if you wish.

The plant will undergo some light shock and growth will slow down for a short time as the plant adjusts and the top and small branches then leaning over begin to grow upwards again. If needed, repeat later bending back in the other direction to attempt to regain some balance.

If you're desperate for space you can always transplant to a lower profile pot. Roots just need space, not depth.
