Plant ID Help

A friend of mine gave me a few random sprouts about a month ago and this was in it. I have no idea what it is. I was thinking maybe some kind of cucumber, but he said he doesn't remember starting any cucumber plants. Does anyone recognize this? Thanks!

If I had to throw some guesses out there I would say Zuchini, squash or pumpkin. Something in that genre. Just my guess though since they all look very similar when young.

Yes the yellow flower is part of the plant. That, and the shape of the leaves is what's leading me to think cucumber. I don't think it is zucchini. I just planted some and they are a little different. Could be yellow squash or maybe some other kind of squash. Anything like that would be cool. I really like that kind of stuff.

That reminds me. Do I need more than one plant with members of the squash family? I thought I heard or read somewhere that you need several plants to pollinate or else the flowers just die and fall off.

I original thought cucumber because of the leaves but if it's not that then idk, something in the squash family I'd guess. I don't believe you need multiple plants, in fact that reminds me I've read where people will plant one plant which produces enough for a small family as long as there is pollination from one flower to another on the same plant, although cross-pollinating from other plants/species of squash fam.will make the fruits better and stronger (from what I hear) but if you want 'pure seeds' hand pollination from flower to flower on the same plant will ensure this... I grow alot of veggies and such and I believe the only plant I have an issue with having to need two plants are my kiwi's a male and female. This info may be wrong I'm just talkin here ya know, goin off of memory (i think lol)

Looks like maybe a crookneck squash.
Some sort of squash anyways, but yellow crookneck would be my guess.

Nope it's tomatillo. The two little plants took over a good portion of my garden and I have probably about 50 or so berries between the 2 plants. Just need to figure out what I'm going to do with them now!

Ever see those little green tomato looking things in the grocery store with the corn like husk? That's a tomatillo. In Mexican Spanish it means "little tomato, although it isn't really a tomato. Only thing I know they are good for is making salsa verde.

Hell yeah mama used to grow chinese lanterns all the time just cause they look so cool. Never knew they were edible let alone sweet tasting...

There's something else for next years list.

It's amazing how the mind will forget and remember...

Don't know what that is but I'm certainly interested. At first glance, looks like a cherry tomato but those aren't tomato leaves. I really want to say some kind of round pepper.
