PC fan wiring help

So I'm pondering how to wire a PC fan to an outlet. A lot of what google showed me is to use old chargers, but none that I can find are 12V.

If I stripped the wire at the end and connected black and red? Would the 12V, 2A be sufficient?

On one PC fan I have on hand right now, it says 12V, 2.2W. Help would be much appreciated.

Try to find something like 12V, but about 1A.
I don't know what the lifespan of your fan will be if you get the 2A power supply.

The charger doesn't need to be 12v. I used a 7v phone charger and a 120mm fan for a year or so without an issue. Just doesn't run at full speed, but still moved enough air for my needs.

You should really check your temps. Max power will be @ 12V though, it depends on your space!!

Your fan is about .2 Amps [12 [v's] x .2 amps = 2.4 watts.

So with a 12v 2amp charger you could run about 10 of those fans altogether.

Switching power / regulated power supplies like wall warts generally are most efficient when running near full load....yes you can hook the fan up like you mentioned, but the 2a charger might be putting out up to 16v's with such a light load on its current. Not good for your fan at all. A potentiometer used as a rheostat is one way to vary your voltage.

Using a light powered charger above 5v's work excellent......I was running [2x] 120mm fans and a 90mmm from a 5v 1amp charger. Only recently [tonight lol] am I attempting a switch out to a 12v 1 amp supply, but I am adding 500mA pots to each of the 120mm fans.

My heat was just a little too high and I needed to speed up my fans. I was going to go with a 9v charger I bought at the 2nd hand store, but it is a freaking AC adaptor.

I use old phone chargers the wires may be different colors from the fane to the charger but one should have a red or black color. Sometimes there more then just 2 wires on a PC fan just you the red and black wires tap over the top of the in needed wires so they don't interfere with anything or get in the way. That's how I set up my fans I'm unsure house many fans per charger you can wire but at most I've only tried 2 to one charger

I found a 9v 600mA Dc Wall Wart

1st pic: 3 fans @ 600ma.....put me at closer to 11 volts.



2nd pic: 3 fans again, but swapped a 120mm fan for another....little lower this time.




This power supply could be on the outs however, but you wouldn't know unless you hit it with a multimeter. I also used the same fans with a 5v 1 amp wall wart and was getting 4.96 volts. So I do think this power supply might be on the fritz.
