Overkill?

Pushing too much spawn usually results in contamination; an MS syringe is mostly just water. Inside a bag extra moisture condensates which can help breed all kinds of things other than mycelium. All you need is one healthy spore to catch on, spread out, and stay clean to begin colonizing. So if an entire 10cc syringe was plunged into a single spawn bag then yes… that’s overkill. I doubt it will do much other than become contaminated. I would acquire more innoculant and try doing some brf cakes or agar to improve your technique and possibly even get to fruiting stage.

No, you need two spores that are complementary

No, being in darkness is unnecessary, it will pin when its colonized enough and be ready for fruiting whether light is present or not.

This is day 4 of it being in the tub, should it be colonized more? I feel like half the substrate should be colonized by now

Yes true that thx for correction
The spawn bag colonized completely with no contamination
Got lucky there

Should take about 11-14 days to fully colonize a tub. Looks like the myc is just breaking the surface. Wait until the whole surface of the substrate is like that one white spot there and then you can case it (if desired) and fruits will grow soon after. Lighting is not needed until then but doesn’t need total darkness either. I used to drape a black trash bag over the tub loosely until fully colonized.
