Which would offer more and better quality of light? I'm inclined to believe that even a cloudy day is brighter and better for plant growth than even the best grow lamps. What do you guys think?

I agree that the quality of light even on an overcast day is probably better than grow lights, quantity is tricky.
Lux is a totally inadequate way of measuring light for plants because lux is a measure of light that we see as humans, predominantly in the green and yellow spectrum which plants don't use much.
Par is better, it measures the light spectrums that plants can perceive which includes the green and yellow spectrums that we perceive, but also includes blue and red light. But, Par doesn't measure the quantity of light for that you need PPFD (photosynthetic photon flux density).

This completely depends on where you are at on earth my dude. is there shade? Trees? What time of day are you measuring light? It's not that simple.
