Coco is sold as "inert" therefore is just the same as any other hydro medium. Needs to be fed.

Hate to do this a third time. but

Lots of Coco coir is NOT sold as inert. ... You'll find plenty of quality brands on the shelves that is sold as loaded with Trichoderma etc. etc.

Anybody that believes the dried husk of a plant is or could be 'inert' really need to do a shed load of reading on the definition of 'inert' and the breakdown of organic compounds. :peace:

Lol Trichoderma isn't a nutrient. Its a fungi.


Its actually a really good one too. As it can out compete soil pests.


Go troll somewhere else.

who said it was? but its presence in a substrate means it can't be 'inert'. as YOU claimed. ... also lots of Coco IS sold pre-loaded with nutrients.

I'm sorry you find the facts inconvenient. I really don't mean to hurt your feelings dude. ... IF I SAY ' Coco IS inert' does that make it all better?

Either help the OP out with some advice based on his predicament or don't bother posting.


You would think with your 70 plant setup you would have something better to do than go over technicalities of coco without offering advice for an already stressed newbie based on his problem.

I think your plant looks OK. Its still really early to tell. Would be nice seeing her in the room. That way we may see something you have overlooked.

Don't expect massive growth spurts for a few days. There is lots still happening under the soil. When the roots gets well established, the growing really begins.

This plant was planted on the 8th April (as a dry seed in wet coco) and the pic was taken on the 16th.




Its the larger of the 2 bigger plants I showed you in the earlier pic.


I honestly think you need to use some nutrients now.

Your seedlings leaves are dropping and looking puffy. IME I've found this to mean they are hungry.

Forgot that you said you're using 200ppm last time.

Are you calibrating your meter to .5 or .7 for ppm?

J. To be honest I haven't got that scientific yet. It's a HM digital TDS-EZ and has no indication of which it is. I calibrate it every other use with 342ppm cal solution and don't include water ppm when making the 200ppm solution. I do have a water softener that uses solar salt that I gave to it 5 days ago. Would 2oz of this water cause any type of lock out or was it not enough. I planned on using my tap water but after a lot of reading ill be stocking up on more distilled and add cal/mag to it for watering. I will get some pics up of it in the cabinet in a bit. It still looks the same as posted pic but just starting to get dark(looks black) on tips of 1st set of true leaves. 2nd set appears ok except for drooping/curling. Thanks to all who have responded.

-Ok you guys there are different types of coco out there i'm sure some have different nutrient content than others.- None the less that plant needs nutes
Leaves like in your first pic and the black leaves means the water isn't going anywhere so either that pot doesn't have a drainage hole or the water is bad. I think it's the softened water that is making it turn black like that. the 200 ppm nutrient is good for that plant size keep it up make sure you use something other than softened water.

Ok. Fed couple days ago but used softened tap water to feed and with the previous tap water drink I flushed it with distilled cal/mag h20 and transplanted to fresh cal/mag distilled coco and perlite and then fed that pot a 200ppm 2oz nute shot to in hopes stop a lock out due to salt. The old and new pot both have may large holes and drain very well. Still not sure what's happening but I'm stoked to have a plant live this long. As you see in pics I have 2 other 4 day olds but there good as of now. Hopefully they will make it past day 9 as well. Love to learn so keep it coming. Nothing said will foot waste. Sorry for delay with pics. Had a brownie and then remembered I also had some yummy green dragon and was a bit fubar. Thanks y'all for the guidance and assistance.

The best advice/guidance I could give would be to start growing 'Hempy' style. You don't need anything you don't already have. and you'll get great results.
