Outer bud leaves dry 4 days into hang drying...jar time?

As the title states my GDP buds are relatively dry on the outside, but I can tell that the insides are still moist as they feel so and the stems bend like a straw. It has been 4 days since hanging and them and the temp has been around 63-70 drgrees with around 55-65% humidity in a medium sized room.

I was wondering if I could put them into a paper bag to slow the drying process, or if I should put them into jars and just monitor them closely?

I have read a lot of posts, but this is a more specific question. Thank you

Bend the stem in two. If the stem snaps then put the bud in paper bags; if the stem bends then leave it to dry.

The outer buds on the cola will seem crisp while the inner buds are still wet. If you put the bud in bags the water will transfer from the stem to the outer buds.

Relatively dry on the outside? If they aren't crispy on the outside, that's just part of the drying process. Part of drying is the natural diffusion of the water in the center to the dryer outside. The outside dries faster and the water inside wicks outward to evaporate. You want to avoid excessive rehydration- letting the moisture inside reach equilibrium with the outside moisture (curing). Curing for too long and/or with too much water still inside leads to rot.

Yes, they are dry to the touch, but if I squeeze slightly I can feel that there is moisture inside. I will just leave them for a few more days. I may just be getting overzealous.

However, there are smaller buds that may take longer than the thicker/denser ones. Should I take these down and paper bag them before the others, or put them directly into jars? How important is the paper bag step? Can they be dried to the point where putting them straight from the line into mason jars will not negatively affect the finished product's taste?

Paper bags are porous and absorb water, they allow for earlier placement in containers and more even drying. You can go straight to mason jars but paper bags will give you a better cure.

If you go straight to mason jars be sure leave the buds out to dry each day until the outside is crisp. Dry the jar walls, mould is the constant enemy. Take the buds out of the jar a couple of times a day for the first couple of days.

So are you saying I should put them into paper bags right now (day 4 of drying) and dry them that way til they are crisp, before putting them into jars (after a few more days)?

If the stem snaps when bent, then yes, put them in bags now.

I only keep my buds in paper bags until their outsides stop being soft and wet after 24 hours in a bag. There are gases being vented as well as water evaporated.
